Role overview
This position reports to the Payroll Supervisor and is focused on the daily operational and financial work involved in global payroll administration, with the main emphasis on UK payroll. The role supports accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing across multiple jurisdictions, while also handling benefit program accounting, reconciliations, reporting, audits, and ongoing process enhancement.
The role is intended as a strong development opportunity for someone with UK payroll experience who wants broader exposure to global payroll operations in a growing company.
Key duties
- Run end-to-end payroll for more than 700 employees in the UK.
- Provide support, when needed, for payroll processing across Canada, the US, Sweden, Spain, Switzerland, and Australia.
- Check and confirm payroll data prepared by the Payroll Coordinator, making sure information from HR and other internal teams is received on time.
- Work with the Payroll Supervisor on payroll review steps, resolve issues early, and help ensure payroll is completed and filed by deadline.
- Carry out payroll reconciliations in detail and prepare/review journal entries, including accruals, corrections, and benefit-related accounting items.
- Handle pension and benefits administration, including contribution submissions, reconciliations, and invoice checks.
- Protect the accuracy of payroll and benefits records by finding, investigating, and resolving data issues across systems and locations.
- Coordinate UK year-end payroll reporting, including issuing P60s and P11Ds while meeting statutory timelines.
- Support leave and statutory pay calculations in line with employment rules, internal policies, and applicable legislation.
- Serve as a main contact for payroll questions from employees, HR, Finance, and other stakeholders, and resolve complex issues promptly.
- Help drive compliance, reporting, and continuous improvement work across jurisdictions by following payroll laws and regulatory requirements.
- Keep all payroll data and documents strictly confidential.
- Contribute to automation, workflow, and systems improvement efforts to increase efficiency.
- Assist with internal and external audits by preparing records, reconciling information, and responding to audit questions accurately and on time.
- Take part in ad hoc payroll and HR initiatives, including providing subject matter input and supporting the rollout of a new HRIS and payroll systems.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned.
Candidate profile
- At least 3 years of high-volume, full-cycle UK payroll experience, with solid knowledge of UK payroll legislation.
- Hands-on experience with UK employee benefits, including pensions.
- Background in a growing technology environment is considered an advantage.
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving team environment.
- Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools such as Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Very strong numerical accuracy and close attention to detail.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
- Skilled at organizing priorities and managing a changing daily workload.
- Strong ownership mindset and a clear awareness of deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear, concise, and formal business correspondence.
- Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively with minimal supervision.
- A diploma or degree in business administration or a related discipline, along with some accounting coursework; holding PCP, CIPP, or FPC certification is also acceptable.
- Exposure to payroll platforms such as Oury Clark, Payworks, GTM, and BambooHR is an advantage.
- Experience with enterprise HRIS and payroll integration implementations is preferred.
Working conditions
This position may require overtime during periods with approaching deadlines.
Compensation and benefits
The role’s base pay range in British Columbia is CAD 65,000 to CAD 80,000 per year. Compensation is determined based on factors such as experience, skills, education, and professional background.
