Descrizione del lavoro
Role overview
HMP Guys Marsh is looking for an Operational Support Grade to help with the everyday running of a busy prison. This position is part of the wider prison support team and involves a mix of security-related duties, visitor management, delivery handling, CCTV and phone monitoring, and practical tasks that may include lifting, carrying, and escorting vehicles across the prison site.
What the role involves
The job combines desk-based work with more active responsibilities. You may be involved in gate security and searches, checking deliveries, supervising visitors, and keeping watch through CCTV and phone monitoring systems.
Who this role suits
This opportunity is open to people without formal qualifications. It may suit someone who communicates well, stays composed under pressure, uses common sense and sound judgement, and enjoys working as part of a team in a fast-moving environment.
Working pattern
The role includes a range of shifts, and you should be prepared for weekend and night working as part of the normal schedule.
Career development
This is a distinctive role that supports public protection and the prison system’s daily work. Although contact with prisoners is usually limited, there may be occasional interaction depending on the prison. The position also provides useful knowledge of prison operations and can open the door to other prison roles, including the OSG to Prison Officer conversion scheme.
Training and support
You will receive training and development support, along with opportunities to progress in your career.
Pay and benefits
The advertised salary is £29,432. Alongside base pay, you will receive 25 days of annual leave on joining, rising to 30 days after 10 years of service, calculated on a pro-rata basis. You will also get 9 days of bank, public, and privilege holidays, access to a paid Level 2 apprenticeship in customer service, and benefits including the Civil Service pension scheme, season ticket loans, retail discounts, an Employee Assistance Programme, and a Cycle to Work scheme.
