Role overview

RAC is hiring a Mobile Vehicle Technician for its Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) team in Bristol. This is a planned mobile repair role focused on scheduled servicing and repairs rather than roadside breakdown recovery. You will visit members at their homes, workplaces, and other pre-booked locations, carrying out quality work with the backing of a well-equipped support system.

Working pattern and pay

• Base pay of £40,178 per year.
• Potential on-target earnings of up to £52,000.
• Option to secure guaranteed overtime that can lift base pay to £44,385, with further overtime and bonus earning potential.
• 40 hours each week.
• Core working hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
• 1 in 4 Saturdays are part of the rota.

About the SMR division

The SMR team is a growing part of RAC built around planned maintenance and repair work. Unlike patrol-style jobs, this position does not involve emergency callouts, reactive roadside work, or unpredictable shifts. Instead, you will follow a structured schedule of appointments and focus on completing each task properly.

Working area

You will be part of the Bristol cluster and cover locations including Bristol city centre and surrounding suburbs, Portishead, Clevedon, Filton, Patchway, Yate, and Keynsham. The role is fully mobile, with work carried out in your local area according to a clearly organised schedule.

Day-to-day duties

• Start the day with a digital work schedule containing pre-booked appointments.
• Carry out routine vehicle servicing.
• Use advanced mobile diagnostics to identify faults.
• Complete more detailed repairs that would typically be handled in a workshop.
• Provide advice and recommendations to members after inspection.
• Perform vehicle safety checks in line with RAC standards.
• Manage planned work with the time and support needed to do a thorough job.

Tools, equipment, and support

From the first day, you will be supplied with a fully fitted RAC van, fuel card, uniform, complete tool kit, and advanced diagnostic equipment. Work is organised through RAC’s mobile service platform, and support for parts ordering is built into the process.
