Role overview

The Residential Tenancies Authority (RTA) is seeking a seasoned communication leader to define and guide the direction of its communication, content and education work. Based in Brisbane’s CBD, this is a fixed-term full-time parental leave cover position with flexible work arrangements.

The RTA exists to support renting that works. Through reliable information, education and services, it helps build service excellence and confidence across Queensland’s rental sector. In this role, you will influence how the organisation communicates with customers and stakeholders and contribute to key business outcomes.

The organisation’s culture is built around four values: Stronger together, Own it, We care, and Be curious.

About the role

The Manager Communication and Education is responsible for leading the RTA’s strategic communication, content, media relations, social media, digital and design functions. Reporting to the Chief People and Impact Officer, you will manage a multidisciplinary team and shape how the organisation informs, educates and engages with customers and stakeholders.

You will act as a trusted adviser to senior leadership on communication, reputation, media and emerging issues, and oversee enterprise-wide communication initiatives that support strategic priorities, service excellence and customer outcomes.

The role spans a broad portfolio and requires a focus on continuous improvement, using customer, sector and operational insights alongside modern communication practices to strengthen channels and content. You will also build team capability, encourage a high-performing environment and support innovation, collaboration and ongoing improvement.

This is a meaningful opportunity for an experienced strategic communication professional to contribute to Queensland’s rental sector, lead people and influence outcomes with real community impact.

  • Modern offices located at Midtown Centre on Mary Street in Brisbane CBD.
  • Access to learning and professional development opportunities.
  • A supportive, inclusive workplace that values diversity, wellbeing and teamwork.
  • Health and wellbeing programs, recognition initiatives and a variety of employee benefits.

Key responsibilities

  • Set and direct the organisation’s communication, content, media, social media, digital and design strategy.
  • Lead and support a multidisciplinary team delivering communication and education outcomes.
  • Provide sound strategic advice to senior leaders on communication, reputation, media and emerging risks or issues.
  • Drive enterprise communication strategies and initiatives that align with organisational priorities and improve customer outcomes.
  • Use customer, sector and operational insights to improve communication channels, content and engagement approaches.
  • Strengthen team capability and promote a culture of performance, collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Support the organisation’s broader objectives by ensuring communication work contributes to service excellence and sector confidence.

Selection criteria

  • Proven background in leading integrated communication, media, content, digital and/or engagement functions.
  • Track record of designing and delivering communication strategies and initiatives that support business priorities and customer results.
  • Experience advising senior leaders on communication, reputation, media and emerging risks.
  • Ability to lead, coach and develop high-performing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong knowledge of strategic communication, engagement, media relations, customer insights and performance measurement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with sound judgement and strong attention to detail.
  • Strong stakeholder management, influencing and business partnering capability.
  • Experience in government, regulatory or other complex customer-focused environments will be an advantage.
