Maintenance Technician

Role overview

This position sits within Engineering & Facilities at a hotel in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It is a full-time, non-management role based onsite. The maintenance team member supports guest comfort, building upkeep, and day-to-day technical operations across the property.

Core duties

You will handle guest repair requests and work directly with guests or customers to resolve maintenance issues. The role includes preventive care for kitchen and boiler-room equipment, routine inspections of tools, machines, and equipment, and the transport of maintenance tools and communication devices as needed.

Other responsibilities include identifying and operating shut-off valves and utility disconnects, tracking maintenance inventory, and requesting parts and supplies when required. You will also share updates and incident details with colleagues on other shifts using proper communication systems and standards.

The job calls for basic working knowledge or the ability to learn key areas such as air conditioning and refrigeration, electrical systems, mechanical systems, plumbing, pneumatic/electronic systems and controls, carpentry and finishing, kitchen equipment, vehicles, energy conservation, and general building operations.

Additional tasks include surface preparation and painting, minor wall and wood repairs, bulb replacement, air filter changes, and thorough cleaning of paint or repair areas. You will troubleshoot and complete basic repairs on a wide range of equipment, including plumbing blockages, electrical components, cosmetic items, extension cords, vacuums, internet devices, switches, sockets, and guest-room fixtures. The role also covers TV setup and other engineering-related maintenance and inventory work.

Before carrying out maintenance work, you must use the lockout/tagout process. The position also involves repairs to indoor and outdoor landscaping, as well as outdoor irrigation systems. Basic computer use is required, including entering HVAC schedules and temperature changes.

Safety, service, and workplace standards

You are expected to follow all company safety policies and procedures, report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, accidents, or injuries, complete required safety training and certifications, and store flammable materials correctly. A professional appearance and neat uniform are required, along with respect for property confidentiality and company assets.

Guest service is an important part of the role. You should greet and acknowledge guests in line with company standards, anticipate service needs, respond with genuine appreciation, and assist guests with disabilities. You must also help maintain quality expectations, build positive working relationships, support team goals, and communicate clearly and professionally with others.

The job may require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and placing items of up to 50 lbs without assistance, with heavier lifting or moving tasks as needed. You should also be able to climb stairs, service ramps, and ladders; reach overhead and below the knees; bend, twist, and stoop; and use computers to enter and locate job-related information. Other reasonable work duties may be assigned.

Desired qualifications

A secondary school diploma, GED, or vocational/technical training certificate is preferred. Relevant experience in general maintenance, indoor and outdoor surface preparation, and painting is valued, and hotel engineering or maintenance experience is considered an advantage. No prior supervisory experience is required.
