Role overview
The Maintenance Technician will support a busy food production operation by handling planned and reactive maintenance across mechanical and electrical equipment. The role focuses on diagnosing faults, completing repairs, and keeping production and support systems running reliably in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
Key duties
- Carry out preventive maintenance, fault diagnosis, and repairs on mechanical and electrical systems, including building services, utilities, and process-support equipment.
- Complete both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance work within a large food manufacturing site, covering machinery servicing, electrical work, mechanical repairs, and equipment installation to required standards.
- Work on processing equipment, packaging lines, and utilities such as chillers, compressors, AHUs, HVAC systems, lighting, and heating.
- Log all maintenance work in the site Computerised Maintenance Management System.
- Ensure every maintenance task, equipment change, and efficiency improvement aligns with site safety rules and the Quality Management System.
- Manage LOTO and Permit-to-Work procedures and oversee service contractors when required.
- Keep work areas clean and maintain strong housekeeping standards during and after maintenance tasks.
- Provide familiarisation and training on equipment to co-workers and site personnel, including machine operators.
- Identify and support cost-saving and technical improvement initiatives through the engineering Continuous Improvement programme.
Qualifications and experience
This position calls for a Mechanical or Electrical Trades Qualification plus relevant experience in a similar maintenance environment. A solid background in industrial maintenance is needed, with exposure to mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, or automation systems. Applicants should be comfortable troubleshooting faults, including on automated control systems, and should also have strong communication skills, reasonable computer literacy, and the ability to work independently.
Working pattern
The site offers a mix of working arrangements: some roles follow a 24/7 shift pattern, while others are daytime roles with on-call responsibility. Candidates should include any preferences or restrictions with their application.
