Librarian

Job Summary

The Librarian leads the University Library and oversees its overall direction. The role is centered on ensuring that the university has up-to-date and sufficient information resources to support teaching, learning, and research. In this position, the Librarian reports to the Vice-Chancellor and manages the library in line with the institution’s statutes.

Key Duties

• Head the University Library and provide overall leadership for its operations.
• Ensure the library offers adequate, current information resources for teaching, learning, and research.
• Report to the Vice-Chancellor on library matters and administration.
• Carry out any additional duties assigned under the University’s statutes.

Qualification and Experience

• Hold a postgraduate qualification in Library Science, Information Science, or a closely related field; a PhD in Library or Information Science is an added advantage.
• Have at least 6 years of service as a Deputy Librarian in a university or in an equivalent role within a similar institution or organization.
• Be familiar with library software or library records management systems aligned with the University’s vision and mission.
• Be a scholar and belong to a professional body in librarianship or information science.
• Have no fewer than 15 cumulative publications.
• Demonstrate the ability to inspire, manage, and lead staff effectively.
• Show strong leadership, organizational ability, and a hardworking attitude.
• Be capable of ensuring that library and information resources meet the needs of faculty and students within an assigned budget.
• Be able to provide fair access to information resources, services, facilities, and systems in both physical and virtual settings.
• Be computer literate.
• Be able to complete a full 4-year term before reaching the compulsory retirement age of 60 years.

Terms of Appointment

The appointment is full-time and will initially run for 4 years. Renewal may be considered for one additional term of 4 years or a shorter portion of that term, depending on satisfactory performance. The remuneration and service conditions are stated to be highly attractive and comparable to those offered by similar universities in Ghana.

They must also provide a brief vision and implementation strategy statement of not more than 1200 words, typed in Times New Roman, font size 12, with 1.5 line spacing.
