About the Role
American Data Network (ADN) is hiring experienced Level I Trauma Abstractors to support precise and timely trauma registry abstraction for healthcare clients. The role suits professionals who have recent, hands-on experience with Level I Trauma abstraction and can work independently while meeting deadlines and quality standards.
ADN is a healthcare quality organization with more than three decades of experience helping hospitals and healthcare clients improve quality, patient safety, and clinical outcomes. The company values integrity, accuracy, teamwork, and professionalism.
This is not a basic data-entry position. Applicants should already have direct experience in healthcare registry work, clinical chart review, quality reporting, or data abstraction specifically related to Level I Trauma.
Position Details
ADN hires both full-time employees and contractors for data abstraction roles. Contractors must be available for at least 15 hours per week. This is a remote position.
Key Responsibilities
- Examine patient charts and extract information for the Trauma Registry.
- Apply registry rules, definitions, inclusion and exclusion criteria, and abstraction standards consistently and correctly.
- Review clinical records and capture detailed injury and treatment data in the trauma registry, including injury mechanism, severity, clinical progression, interventions, complications, and outcomes based on Level I trauma requirements.
- Enter complete and accurate information into registry systems, EHRs, vendor platforms, and other assigned tools.
- Maintain strong accuracy, completeness, and attention to detail throughout the abstraction process.
- Work toward productivity targets, weekly goals, and internal as well as client deadlines.
- Support quality assurance efforts such as feedback review, corrections, validation, and inter-rater reliability checks.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with account leads, teammates, and client contacts when clarification is required.
- Protect confidentiality and follow ADN, client, HIPAA, and data security standards.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of recent experience abstracting Level I Trauma Registry cases.
- Current trauma registry and coding training is required, including proof of completion for the Trauma Registry Course, AAAM AIS Coding Course, and an ICD-10 coding course completed within the last 5 years.
- Ability to independently abstract Level I Trauma cases using registry specifications and clinical records.
- Solid knowledge of healthcare quality reporting, registry abstraction, chart review, and interpretation of medical documentation.
- Capable of working independently with limited oversight while maintaining accuracy and timeliness.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and consistent follow-through.
- Comfortable using multiple EHRs, registry platforms, vendor tools, and related data systems.
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
- For contractors, a high-speed secure internet connection, a PC or laptop, and at least two monitors are required.
Preferred Experience
- Background using trauma applications, Level I Trauma reports, or similar data collection tools.
- Experience with inter-rater reliability review, quality assurance review, audit validation, or abstraction accuracy checks.
Screening and Onboarding
Qualified candidates will go through an initial phone screening and a trauma-focused abstraction assessment. The assessment is intended to evaluate knowledge of registry specifications, abstraction judgment, accuracy, and speed of completion.
ADN does not train candidates in Level I Trauma abstraction, so applicants should already have the required registry experience. After hiring, ADN provides onboarding on its internal processes, client systems, EHR access, documentation patterns, and other client-specific workflows.
Why This Role May Appeal to You
This position may suit experienced Level I Trauma Abstractors who prefer independent work, flexible scheduling, registry-based chart review, and healthcare quality reporting. ADN also offers a supportive team atmosphere, access to multiple registry opportunities, and possible advancement into lead or broader quality roles for strong performers.
