About Helsing
Helsing is a European defence AI company focused on protecting liberal democracies. Its technology is built to interpret complex sensor data in real time so that the people operating in highly demanding environments can make better decisions. The company places strong emphasis on responsibility, precision, and impact, and expects the same standard from everyone who joins.
Helsing is made up of deeply specialised professionals who care intensely about the quality of their work. The organisation values urgency, discipline, and accountability, especially because its outcomes have significance beyond the business itself.
About the Role
As Learning and Development Lead, you will be responsible for creating the full onboarding experience for new colleagues joining Helsing. This role sits at the intersection of people, culture, and organisational effectiveness, and the systems you build will directly influence how quickly new hires across functions such as engineering and programme management can start contributing meaningfully.
You will help new joiners understand Helsing’s purpose and culture, and you will guide them from offer acceptance through the probationary period. In collaboration with hiring managers, team leads, and subject-matter experts, you will develop structured learning journeys that can scale with the business while preserving the depth and clarity of the company’s culture.
This is a build-from-scratch opportunity: the onboarding and learning frameworks will need to be designed and implemented by you.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, run, and improve structured onboarding programmes across the organisation so that every new hire receives a consistent introduction to Helsing’s mission, culture, and way of working.
- Work with hiring managers, team leads, and experts from different functions to design job-specific learning paths and onboarding materials that help people become productive sooner.
- Develop scalable learning tools and systems, including an LMS, self-service resources, and automated processes, to reduce manual coordination as the company grows.
- Set onboarding success measures and use feedback and data to improve new hire satisfaction and speed to contribution.
- Partner with People and Talent teams to ensure the experience is smooth from offer acceptance to the end of probation.
- Act as the main contact for onboarding questions from new hires and their managers, helping resolve issues and remove obstacles during the first weeks.
- Promote an inclusive onboarding process that reflects Helsing’s values and supports people from different backgrounds to participate confidently.
Requirements
- Experience designing and delivering structured onboarding or learning and development programmes in a fast-growing technology environment, with clear improvements in new hire outcomes.
- Practical experience choosing, implementing, and managing a Learning Management System to centralise and expand learning content.
- Ability to create engaging self-paced learning experiences using content development tools, with a solid understanding of effective asynchronous learning.
- Proven record of leading complex cross-functional programmes from initial scoping and design through implementation, evaluation, and refinement.
- A data-driven approach to people programmes, including identifying meaningful metrics and using evidence to guide continuous improvement.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships across levels, align stakeholders, and move work forward in a matrixed environment.
Eligibility
Applicants from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Helsing explicitly welcomes candidates even if they do not meet every requirement listed, and it encourages people from under-represented groups to consider the opportunity.
Nice to Have
- Experience connecting learning systems and automated onboarding workflows with HRIS platforms such as HiBob.
- Exposure to designing programmes for multiple locations, time zones, or cultural settings.
- Background in security-cleared or regulated environments where onboarding includes extra compliance steps.
- Experience building learning and development capabilities from the ground up in a scaling organisation.
What Helsing Offers
- Competitive salary plus VSOP options.
- Relocation support of up to €2,500 and four weeks of temporary accommodation.
- Annual learning allowance of €500 / £450.
- Health and wellbeing support, including a gym membership and access to mental health support via Nilo.health.
- Regular company events and monthly social allowances.
- Enhanced parental leave: 22 weeks fully paid for primary caregivers and 6 weeks for secondary caregivers.
- Family support benefits including 5 days of paid emergency family leave, a 100% remote work option during pregnancy, and a phased return-to-work arrangement.
