Position overview
This role provides daily IT support for the Life Span Institute and three departments within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences: Applied Behavioral Science, Clinical Child Psychology, and Speech-Language-Hearing: Sciences & Disorders. The position involves support for Windows devices managed through MCM/Intune, macOS devices managed through Jamf Cloud, and hybrid identity platforms such as Active Directory and Azure Active Directory (Entra ID). The work also includes support for software and peripherals, technical guidance, purchasing assistance, and mentoring student workers. Training and ongoing mentorship are available to help expand skills.
What you'll do
- Handle first-level support through phone, walk-up, email, remote channels, and chat for Windows and macOS systems, multifunction devices, network storage, and basic connectivity issues.
- Support account administration and user access in Active Directory and Azure AD.
- Enroll macOS computers in Jamf Cloud and help with application installation, updates, and troubleshooting.
- Manage Windows devices using MCM/Intune, including updates and routine maintenance.
- Prepare and configure new computers, software, printers, and other peripherals such as MFDs, phones, presentation tools, and conferencing equipment.
- Use established escalation paths when issues require more advanced support.
- Help users identify appropriate hardware and software needs, and assist with quote collection and purchase submissions.
- Provide basic how-to guidance for common software and applications.
- Share recurring issues with KU IT and senior LSI IT staff, and participate in IT meetings to stay current on university policies.
- Coordinate the workload of student assistants and support their growth through mentoring.
- Maintain documentation, inventory records, and simple reports, and take on other tasks as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least 2 years of experience in IT technical support or help desk support.
- Professional experience supporting Windows 10/11 or macOS.
- Strong working knowledge of computers, operating systems, and common business applications, demonstrated through application materials.
- Clear communication and strong customer service skills, supported by work history.
- Evidence of having learned and adapted to new technologies in past roles.
- Preferred background includes an associate or bachelor’s degree.
- CompTIA A+ or a similar certification is preferred.
- Experience supporting Microsoft 365 tools such as Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint is preferred.
- Knowledge or hands-on experience with Active Directory / Azure AD (Entra ID) is preferred.
- Knowledge or hands-on experience with Jamf Cloud, MCM/Intune, or similar device-management tools is preferred.
- Three years of progressively responsible experience in help desk, technical support, or customer service is preferred.
- Experience in academic or research settings is preferred.
- Understanding of cybersecurity fundamentals, best practices, and compliance frameworks is preferred.
