Position overview
This is a full-time term opportunity with the Manitoba government’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, within the Recovery and Mitigation branch of the Manitoba Emergency Management Organization in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The role sits at the AS3 level and reports an annual salary range of $64,229 to $78,887. The competition closes on July 2, 2026, and the advertisement number is 45458.

Role summary
The Inspector works mainly in the field, independently inspecting and documenting private-sector damage for applicants seeking Disaster Financial Assistance from the Government of Manitoba. The work involves producing reports and photographs that capture disaster-related damage to residential, farm, small business, and not-for-profit properties. After site visits, findings are entered into a database that supports claims management. When not out in the field, the incumbent assists with claims administration.

Duties
- Inspect private-sector properties in the field and document disaster-related damage for Disaster Financial Assistance claims.
- Prepare detailed reports and photographs covering damage to residential, farm, small business, and not-for-profit properties.
- Record inspection results in the claims database used by claims management staff.
- Support claims administration duties when not conducting field inspections.
Qualifications
Essential qualifications include professional experience and knowledge in one or more of the following areas: building construction, building inspection, agriculture inspection, or insurance adjusting. Experience assessing residential, farm, or small to medium commercial buildings is preferred. Related background in property or damage assessment may also be considered.
Candidates should be able to evaluate physical damage through inspection, interpret and apply policies, regulations, guidelines, or legislation, and work independently with minimal supervision. Strong problem-solving ability, excellent organization, time management, and the capacity to prioritize tasks in a busy environment are important. The position also calls for diplomacy and tact in sensitive situations, strong written and verbal communication skills, and experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook or similar software.
Desirable experience includes work with Lotus Notes or IBM Notes.
Conditions of employment
- Must be legally allowed to work in Canada.
- Must be willing and able to work extended hours, including holidays, evenings, and weekends when required.
- Must be able to travel by ground and air across Manitoba, with possible overnight stays.
- Must hold and maintain a valid full Class 5F Manitoba driver’s licence.
- Must be able to provide and maintain a satisfactory criminal record check.
