About the role

Ty Inc. is looking for an experienced, service-minded Human Resources Specialist to join the team in Westmont, IL. This position supports core HR operations with a focus on payroll coordination, employee relations, and benefits administration as part of the Human Resources department.

Payroll responsibilities

  • Accurately process payroll and maintain related records, including employee time data, wages, deductions, commissions, and benefit details.
  • Support compliance with federal, state, and local rules tied to compensation payments and related taxes.
  • Keep payroll records current when employees are promoted, transferred, terminated, or newly hired.
  • Handle additional pay items or deductions when needed, such as child support, wage garnishments, and annual bonuses.
  • Review payroll issues, investigate inconsistencies, and correct errors to protect payroll accuracy.
  • Help improve coordination among Payroll, Human Resources, and employees so employee information stays accurate and up to date.
  • Communicate with internal departments, outside service providers, and state agencies as required.

HR support duties

  • Explain documentation needs and benefit eligibility, and direct employees to the right resources when necessary.
  • Assist with recruiting, onboarding, and orientation activities.
  • Answer employee questions about records, status updates, benefit elections, enrollment, payroll calculations, and benefit options.
  • Support programs such as leaves of absence and workers’ compensation claims.
  • Contribute to open enrollment, new-hire orientation, and other HR projects and assignments.
  • Prepare reports for managers and other departments as needed.

Working conditions and physical demands

  • Regular computer use with keyboard input is required.
  • Frequent verbal and electronic communication is part of the role.
  • Most of the workday may be spent sitting for long periods.
  • Occasional lifting or carrying of items weighing up to 10 lbs may be needed.

Schedule and location

This is a Monday through Friday, in-office role based in Westmont, IL. The position is not hybrid and not remote.

Required background

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent practical experience in HR management or payroll management.
  • Strong knowledge of labor laws and payroll processing.
  • Working understanding of HR best practices, including benefits administration and leave of absence processes.
  • Experience using HRIS and payroll systems; ADP Workforce Now is preferred.
  • Strong record-keeping skills and the ability to track HR metrics.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and manage tasks effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
