Role Purpose
This position is responsible for leading payroll, HR budgeting, staff costing, job grading, compensation, and benefits activities, accounting for about 70% of the role. The remaining 30% covers HR support areas such as recruitment, onboarding, and performance management. The company is looking for a CPA-qualified professional with strong financial and analytical capability, paired with solid HR knowledge, to help keep processes compliant, fair, and efficient.

Key Responsibilities
The role combines payroll and compensation administration with HR operational support.
Payroll, HR Budgeting, Compensation and Benefits
- Gather, verify, and process employee information such as attendance, overtime, allowances, and deductions for the Kenya market.
- Compute gross pay, net pay, statutory deductions including PAYE, NSSF, and NHIF, as well as employer contributions.
- Prepare payroll journals and ensure they reconcile with finance records and systems.
- Make sure salaries are paid on time.
- Maintain payroll documentation suitable for audits and compliance checks.
- Prepare annual HR budgets and payroll forecasts.
- Carry out staff-cost analysis to support workforce planning and financial sustainability.
- Track budget deviations and provide monthly reporting.
- Apply job grading structures that match the organization’s framework.
- Assess roles and support pay equity across different grades.
- Design compensation packages aligned with role scope and market benchmarks.
- Administer employee benefits such as medical insurance and allowances.
- Ensure benefits comply with statutory requirements and internal policies.
- Serve as the first point of contact for compensation and benefits queries.
- Use CPA expertise to review payroll entries and support tax and labour-law compliance.
- Prepare payroll reports, reconciliations, and documentation ready for audit review.
HR Officer Support
- Support recruitment activities, including candidate screening and interview coordination.
- Help ensure job descriptions and grading are aligned to organizational standards.
- Coordinate orientation and onboarding so new employees settle in smoothly.
- Prepare onboarding paperwork and ensure HR policy compliance.
- Support appraisal cycles and maintain performance review records.
- Assist managers with performance feedback discussions.
- Provide payroll and HR data insights to support performance conversations.
- Guide employees and managers on HR policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate employee records while safeguarding confidentiality.
- Act as a link between employees and management on HR-related matters.
Skills and Experience Profile
The position requires strong capability in payroll controls, budgeting, compensation analysis, benefits administration, HR systems, analytics, and stakeholder engagement. The role also calls for a strong working knowledge of Kenyan tax and labour requirements, plus the ability to support HR workflows in a multinational setting.
Qualifications and Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in HR, Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline.
- CPA certification is compulsory.
- At least 5–7 years of experience in payroll, HR budgeting, compensation, and benefits management.
- Experience using HRIS and payroll systems in a multi-country or multinational environment.
- Strong understanding of Kenyan labour laws, tax rules, and HR frameworks.
