Role Overview

The Handbag Designer will support the full design and development journey for handbags and small leather goods, from the initial idea stage through commercialization. The role works in close coordination with Design, Product Development, and Production to help deliver seasonal collections that fit the brand’s look, serve customer needs, and support business goals.

This position is hands-on across the design workflow, including concept creation, sketching, CAD work, tech pack development, sample tracking, and presentation prep. The ideal candidate brings strong creativity, sharp attention to detail, and a collaborative approach, while staying effective in a fast-moving environment with shifting priorities and deadlines.

Design and Product Development

• Assist with the creation and development of handbags and small leather goods from concept to final sample sign-off.
• Prepare sketches, CAD artwork, renderings, and technical drawings to clearly communicate design ideas.
• Build and keep up to date the tech packs, product specifications, and other development records.
• Make sure designs meet customer expectations, brand direction, construction standards, and timeline requirements.
• Update line sheets with accurate product names, drawings, materials, and design information.
• Work closely with the Associate Designer, VP of Design, Product Development, and Production teams through the full development process.

Sample and Calendar Coordination

• Monitor sample progress, confirm delivery dates, and follow up on unresolved development items.
• Help prepare for key milestones such as Sketch Review, First Design Review (FDR), and Market presentations.
• Check samples for fit, function, construction quality, and alignment with the intended design.
• Keep development files, materials, and sample references well organized.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Take part in weekly Design and Product Development meetings.
• Develop strong working relationships across Design, Product Development, Production, Merchandising, and other partner teams.
• Share updates clearly about development progress, timing risks, and design changes.
• Contribute to special assignments and seasonal initiatives when needed.

Creative Input

• Bring a clear design point of view while staying receptive to feedback and teamwork.
• Study trends, materials, construction methods, and competitor products in the handbag and accessories space.
• Offer ideas that encourage innovation while staying true to the Clare V. aesthetic and lifestyle.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or a closely related discipline.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience designing and developing handbags or accessories.
• Advanced knowledge of leather, materials, handbag construction, and related techniques.
• Strong grasp of the end-to-end design development process, from concept to commercialization.
• Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
• Strong abilities in sketching, illustration, organization, and time management.
• Good understanding of the Clare V. brand aesthetic and customer lifestyle.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to manage several projects and deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
• Careful attention to detail and genuine enthusiasm for fashion design.
• Experience working with both overseas and domestic development partners.
• Familiarity with PLM systems and digital product development tools.
• Physical capability to sit for long periods while working at a computer, sketching, or reviewing materials.
• Frequent use of hands and fingers for computer equipment, tablets, office tools, samples, and prototypes.
• Ability to visually inspect colors, materials, hardware, stitching, and product details with precision.
• Regular movement around the office and sample storage areas to review and organize materials.
• Ability to lift, carry, or move sample bags, materials, boxes, and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
• Ability to bend, reach, and access shelving or storage areas as required.

Compensation and Perks
