Role overview
Blue Oak Consulting is hiring a Graduate Frontend Developer to create polished, practical web applications that make complex investment information easier to understand. The role sits within a hybrid working model and supports a global retail investment group by turning detailed financial models into interactive visual tools.
About Blue Oak Consulting
Blue Oak Consulting focuses on independent advice in areas such as pricing, portfolio economics, capital allocation, and acquisition assumptions. Rather than delivering broad transformation programmes or generic strategy decks, the firm examines specific commercial decisions where the financial implications are significant and the existing explanation is not enough. The team looks beyond corporate wording and complicated P&Ls to identify where value is being lost or where capital is tied up. Work spans sectors including software, manufacturing, and healthcare, with the goal of testing whether the assumptions behind a growth plan or acquisition really stand up under scrutiny. The business is small and principal-led, meaning the people doing the work are also responsible for the outcome. Because it does not work on transaction-contingent fees, the team can give direct and candid views on whether a decision is economically sound. Its approach combines financial discipline with healthy scepticism and continues through implementation, where apparently strong ideas can still run into real-world constraints.
What the role involves
This position connects financial analysis with software development. Working with senior consultants, you will help build lightweight, responsive dashboards and interactive calculators that present financial assumptions clearly and make them easy to test. It is an entry-level opportunity designed to help you learn how spreadsheet logic can be translated into reusable React or Vue components. The team works in a collaborative hybrid setup, so you will spend part of the week with colleagues in a shared workspace and part of the week working independently from home.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain responsive frontend interfaces using modern JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
- Develop charts, tables, and financial calculators that help explain portfolio economics for the retail investment group client.
- Work with analysts to convert Excel prototypes and mathematical models into structured, easy-to-use web interfaces.
- Keep the codebase tidy and dependable by prioritising quality, usability, and accuracy in testing.
- Take part in design discussions and project check-ins so technical work stays aligned with commercial analysis needs.
Requirements
- A recent degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a similar technical field, or equivalent hands-on coding experience.
- Strong grounding in frontend fundamentals, especially JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3.
- Exposure to at least one modern frontend framework or library such as React, Vue, or Angular through study, personal work, or a bootcamp.
- Strong attention to detail and an interest in presenting data clearly for non-technical users.
- A careful, inquisitive approach to problem-solving, plus curiosity about financial metrics.
- Comfort working in a hybrid setup that mixes independent work with team collaboration.
Perks and benefits
- Competitive compensation for an entry-level role.
- Hybrid working with a mix of remote flexibility and in-person mentoring.
- Direct access to senior leaders and principals, without the layers common in larger firms.
- Training in frontend engineering best practices as well as practical financial analysis.
- The chance to see how your work affects real commercial decisions.
Who can apply
Recent graduates in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical subject can apply, as can candidates with equivalent practical coding experience. Applicants should be early in their career and comfortable working in a hybrid environment. A basic understanding of frontend development and an interest in learning more about financial modelling are important.
Additional information
The working arrangement is hybrid, combining remote days with on-site collaboration. The employer highlights a culture built around honesty, scepticism, and clear reasoning rather than corporate jargon. The role is aimed at people who want to build tools that help answer difficult real-world questions while working with a focused and collaborative team.
