Overview
This role depends on the organization winning a contract that is still under review. The position sits within a data-driven healthcare technology group focused on quality, process discipline, and helping healthcare systems exchange information smoothly across platforms and devices.
Role Summary
The Genomic Characterization Staff Scientist will carry out advanced molecular biology work centered on sequencing, genomic analysis, and molecular profiling to support surveillance of biological threats and the discovery of countermeasures. The position supports the Molecular Biology Division through research on the genomic characterization of biological threat agents.
What You’ll Do
- Run sequencing and downstream analysis for bacterial and viral samples.
- Complete nucleic acid extraction and prepare sequencing libraries.
- Apply bioinformatics workflows to evaluate and interpret sequence data.
- Help prepare technical reports and scientific manuscripts.
- Carry out work in BSL-2/BSL-3 environments when needed.
- Complete assigned tasks and share results with the broader project team.
- Document findings in reports and publications and present outcomes during meetings.
Required Knowledge and Experience
The ideal candidate should have practical exposure to next-generation sequencing platforms, familiarity with high-throughput laboratory settings, and the ability to work independently in a life sciences research environment. The role also calls for strong analytical ability, good organization, and solid written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated subject-matter expertise in at least one relevant area, along with evidence of independent research through technical reports and/or peer-reviewed publications, is expected.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, genomics, or a closely related discipline.
- At least 4 years of experience in molecular biology or genomics.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain eligibility for a SECRET security clearance without access to classified information.
- Enrollment in the Personnel Reliability Program (PRP) if required.
- A current SECRET clearance is preferred.
- Master’s degree is preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
The annual salary range for this position is $105,000 to $153,000.
