Executive - Airside Operations

Job purpose

This position supports the secure, smooth, and compliant functioning of the airside environment by performing scheduled and detailed checks across the movement area, tracking day-to-day operations, and ensuring adherence to DGCA, ICAO, and internal procedures. The role helps keep airside activities safe and uninterrupted during assigned shifts.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out regular inspections of the runway, taxiways, apron, and other operational zones, and ensure observations are closed within the required time.
• Monitor radio communication between ATC and aircraft within the area of responsibility to confirm that instructions are accurate, acknowledged, and followed.
• Identify safety risks in the airside environment, report them, and initiate preventive action where needed.
• Support safe aircraft movement coordination on the apron and help maintain overall ramp safety.
• Track temporary obstructions and escalate them to Apron Control or the Operation Duty Manager.
• Oversee hot work activities on the apron and help ensure they are executed safely.
• Check that vegetation on airside property remains within regulatory limits.
• Inspect passenger boarding bridges externally and report any defects to the Apron Manager or Operation Duty Manager.
• Inspect areas after works, engine run-ups, and similar activities, then report findings to the Apron Manager.
• Check obstruction lighting across airside installations and report outages or faults to the Apron Manager or Operation Duty Manager.
• Observe and report bird and wildlife activity in line with the wildlife hazard management program.
• Support the wildlife hazard management team in deterring wildlife activity at the airport.
• Monitor apron activity to ensure compliance with safety and security rules.
• Watch vehicle and traffic movement and raise violations when required.
• Provide Follow Me guidance to aircraft, vehicles, or equipment as needed.
• Assist during fuel or oil spill events and secure the affected area if necessary.
• Monitor all work taking place on airside.
• Facilitate approved airside works and coordinate runway maneuvering area handover and takeover during maintenance.
• Support VVIP and VIP movements.
• Provide Follow Me service to aircraft, vehicles, equipment, and VVIP flights.
• Support RMS operations on the apron and maneuvering area.
• Implement safeguarding measures before Low Visibility Procedures begin.
• Apply vehicular control measures during low visibility operations and brief/supervise traffic marshals accordingly.
• Respond to emergencies as directed and support drills and preparedness exercises.
• Act quickly during airside incidents and accidents.
• Keep logs and complete runway and apron inspection checklists accurately.
• Escalate issues promptly to the Apron Manager or Operation Duty Manager.
• Maintain professional communication with ATC, AOCC, Apron Control, and aircraft-related stakeholders as needed.

Performance indicators

The role is measured through inspection frequency, number of observations raised and closed, process improvement initiatives, wildlife hazard control performance, violations reported, training participation, Follow Me support provided, and accurate reporting of warnings, observations, and follow-up actions.

External: ATC; ground handling agencies; airlines; caterers; fueling companies; vendors such as airside cleaning, marking, and grass-cutting teams; CISF, NSG, Delhi Police, IAF; DGCA.

Internal: AOCC; P&E; ARFF; Terminal Operations; TMT; DIAL Security.

Financial responsibility for this role is nil. The position includes supervision of vendor manpower during shifts, covering approximately 50 staff members.

Education and qualifications

• Graduate degree with relevant exposure to airside operations or ATC.
• Valid LMV driving licence is mandatory.

Experience and working conditions

• Strong understanding of aerodrome design and operations, including Annex 14, DGCA CAR Section 4 Series B Part I, Doc 9157, Doc 9137, and related aviation standards, policies, and practices.
• Ability to follow instructions and SOPs accurately.
• Working knowledge of MS Office and internet-based tools.
• More than 7 years of experience in the aviation industry.
• Clear communication and reporting ability.
• Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
