Role overview
Aotea Southern is seeking a Solar Foreman to guide its expanding solar division and oversee the delivery of quality solar installations in Dunedin. This opportunity may suit an experienced Electrical Foreman or Supervisor who wants a shift into renewable energy, or a Senior Electrician/Solar Installer ready to move into a leadership position.
The successful person will lead teams working on residential and commercial solar projects, taking responsibility for the day-to-day running of sites and making sure work is carried out safely, efficiently, and to a consistently high standard. The role reports to an experienced Solar Project Manager who focuses on practical and innovative design solutions so the team can concentrate on delivering excellent installations.
Why this opportunity stands out
- Experience across on-grid, off-grid, and battery-based systems.
- Involvement in community and sustainability initiatives through an ongoing sponsorship with Wild Dunedin, with a strong solar emphasis.
- A supportive team environment within an established business.
Key responsibilities
You will coordinate and lead installation work across solar PV, battery storage, and EV charging jobs, managing labour, materials, and site Health & Safety on a daily basis. The position also involves overseeing projects from beginning to end, resolving issues as they arise, working closely with clients, contractors, and internal staff, and ensuring all installations meet New Zealand electrical requirements and Aotea quality standards. You will also be expected to commission systems and complete handover to clients.
What the employer is looking for
The ideal candidate is a registered electrician with a current EWRB practising licence. Solar endorsement is preferred, although training can be provided to the right applicant. Prior experience leading teams on site is important, whether in a formal leadership role or through informal responsibility. Strong background in residential and commercial electrical work, a self-driven and adaptable approach, solution-oriented thinking, and a full New Zealand driver’s licence are required.
What is offered
The package includes a company vehicle, phone, and uniform, along with opportunities for progression within a broad and established organisation. Additional benefits include access to trade accounts and discounts across many Dunedin businesses, a $100 Prezzy Card for your birthday, a grocery voucher at Christmas, staff functions, and a strong focus on Health & Safety. Long-service leave is available after 7 years.
Additional notes
If you are ready to advance your career in the solar and renewable energy sector, this role offers the chance to step into a leadership position and contribute to a growing team.
