Role purpose
The Draughtsman (EPLAN/ELCAD) will produce precise electrical drawings, schematics, panel layouts, and related technical documents using EPLAN/ELCAD. The position supports engineering and project teams by turning design ideas and technical specifications into detailed, standards-compliant drawings that suit fabrication, installation, and commissioning requirements.
What you will do
- Prepare general arrangement, layout, and assembly drawings for control and protection panels, including cubicles and sub-assemblies.
- Develop fabrication drawings for sheet metal parts, mounting plates, sub-panels, and busbar assemblies with complete dimensions, tolerances, and annotations.
- Produce electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, termination drawings, and panel layouts in EPLAN from engineering inputs.
- Maintain device tags, cable schedules, terminal diagrams, and bills of materials.
- Make sure all drawings follow company standards, client requirements, and relevant industry regulations such as IEC and NFPA.
- Revise and update drawings based on engineering modifications, site comments, and as-built needs while keeping version records accurate.
- Work closely with design engineers, project managers, and production teams to convert concepts into buildable drawings.
- Arrange panel components efficiently to support access, maintenance, and thermal performance.
- Take part in design reviews and apply feedback to finalize drawings.
- Keep drawing logs, document control records, CAD libraries, and project files organized according to internal procedures.
- Support workshop and site teams with technical clarification during manufacturing, installation, and commissioning.
- Ensure drawings and documentation meet safety, quality, and regulatory expectations.
- Help improve standard design templates and EPLAN libraries through standardization and continuous improvement efforts.
Requirements
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology or an equivalent qualification such as City & Guilds, HNC, or HND; relevant proven experience may also be accepted.
- At least 2 to 3 years of experience as a draughtsman in control panel, switchgear, enclosure fabrication, or a similar heavy electrical manufacturing environment.
- Strong command of 2D/3D CAD tools, with essential experience in AutoCAD and EPLAN/ELCAD.
- Proven ability to create detailed manufacturing and assembly drawings.
- Good grasp of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Working knowledge of electrical components and how they are mounted mechanically.
- Familiarity with control panel construction, sheet metal fabrication, and standard electrical enclosure types.
