Role overview
Babcock is seeking a Data & Configuration Management Officer to support the Engineering team in Devonport, Auckland. The position sits within a mission-focused programme that supports complex defence systems, where precision, structure and disciplined technical control are essential.
In this role, you will help preserve the accuracy of engineering information and the control of configuration baselines across the full product lifecycle. You will work as part of a collaborative technical group to keep systems, records and procedures compliant, orderly and aligned with recognised standards.
The opportunity offers exposure to quality, safety and performance outcomes in a tightly regulated setting. You will work with stakeholders, take part in audits and analysis, and contribute to ongoing improvement in configuration management and data management practices. The role is well suited to someone who enjoys structured problem-solving, working with digital tools such as SharePoint and ProjectWise, and contributing to practical engineering results.
What you will do
- Maintain the integrity of engineering data and configuration baselines throughout the product lifecycle.
- Support controlled documentation, records and process management within the engineering function.
- Work with stakeholders to keep information accurate, traceable and compliant.
- Contribute to audits, verification activities and compliance-related reviews.
- Identify opportunities to improve configuration and data management workflows.
- Use tools and systems such as SharePoint, ProjectWise and similar platforms to manage technical information.
- Assist with technical analysis, reporting and issue resolution in a structured environment.
What you will bring
You should be detail-oriented, technically confident and comfortable working in a structured engineering environment. The position calls for someone who understands configuration and data management principles and can apply them to maintain accuracy, control and documentation quality.
You will need to be comfortable using CM/DM systems and toolsets, communicating with different stakeholders, and spotting ways to improve processes. A strong sense of accountability, an interest in compliance, and a continuous improvement mindset are all important for success in this role.
Required experience and qualifications
- A technical vocational qualification or certificate in a relevant discipline.
- Formal training in configuration management and data management, such as EIA-649 or an equivalent specialism.
- Eligibility for membership of a relevant technical body, along with an interest in continuous professional development.
- At least 2 years of experience in an engineering or technical environment.
- Ability to obtain New Zealand Security Clearance at CV level or above.
