Customer Assistant - Gort

Role overview

Lidl is looking for a customer-focused Store Assistant in Gort, County Galway. The role is based in a busy retail environment and centres on creating a smooth, positive shopping experience for every customer. This position is offered on a standard 30-hour contract, with pay starting from €460+ per week.

You will work different shifts, handle a variety of tasks, and collaborate closely with colleagues across the store. Because the role involves selling alcohol, applicants must be 18 years of age or older.

Shift patterns

• Morning shifts: Start at 5:00am or 6:00am and focus on getting stock onto the shop floor and bakery items ready before opening.
• Middle shifts: Begin in the late morning or early afternoon and involve cleaning, maintaining presentation standards, supporting customers, and serving on tills to keep queues moving.
• Late shifts: Start later in the day and concentrate on delivering excellent service at the tills, replenishing missing products, and preparing the store for the following day.

Main duties

• Serve customers in a polite, approachable, and helpful way.
• Follow stock-loss prevention procedures throughout the store.
• Keep the shop floor, back areas, and external spaces clean and hygienic.
• Apply freshness standards and rotation rules when handling products.
• Dispose of waste correctly and according to procedure.
• Support stock counting activities when required.

What you need

• A positive, hands-on attitude and strong customer service skills.
• Willingness to go the extra mile for shoppers.
• Reliability and a responsible approach to work.
• Comfort working in a busy, changing retail setting.
• Good teamwork skills.
• Previous customer-facing experience is helpful but not essential if the right attitude is present.

Pay and benefits

• Starting hourly rate of €15.40, rising to €17.90 after 3 years.

Pay structure by year

• Year 1: Base €15.40, €19.25 for unsocial hours, €23.10 for overtime/Sundays, €30.80 for bank holidays.
• Year 2: Base €16.20, €20.25 for unsocial hours, €24.30 for overtime/Sundays, €32.40 for bank holidays.
• Year 3: Base €16.90, €21.13 for unsocial hours, €25.35 for overtime/Sundays, €33.80 for bank holidays.
• Year 4: Base €17.90, €22.38 for unsocial hours, €26.85 for overtime/Sundays, €35.80 for bank holidays.
