About the Organization
Drinking Water and Sanitation Department (DWSD), Government of Jharkhand, leads the planning, execution, and tracking of initiatives aimed at delivering safe drinking water and better sanitation across the state. Role Overview
The Communications Specialist will be based on-site in Jharkhand and will support the department’s communication, outreach, and public engagement activities on a full-time basis. This position focuses on turning technical and program-related information into clear, audience-friendly messaging for internal teams, media channels, and the general public.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, edit, and refine press releases, official announcements, and public notices.
- Design and execute communication strategies that build awareness around departmental programs and initiatives.
- Handle internal communication processes so that updates and information remain aligned across teams.
- Create content for websites, social platforms, and printed communication material.
- Coordinate with media representatives and external partners as needed.
- Assist in planning and running public events, workshops, and outreach campaigns.
- Work with technical and administrative colleagues to simplify complex program details into messages that are easy for varied audiences to understand.
Qualifications and Skills
- Strong ability to communicate strategically and adapt messaging for government stakeholders, media outlets, and public audiences.
- Hands-on experience in drafting, editing, and formatting press releases and related formal communication content.
- Capability to support internal communication so that information is shared clearly and in a timely manner.
- Excellent written and verbal English skills; knowledge of Hindi and/or local languages spoken in Jharkhand is an added advantage.
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Public Administration, or a similar discipline.
- Previous exposure to communications work in government, public sector, or development-sector settings will be beneficial.
- Comfort working on-site, coordinating with different teams, handling several tasks at once, and meeting deadlines.
- Working familiarity with digital communication tools, basic media coordination, and documentation practices.
