Role overview
The Bar Back role supports the bar team by keeping the beverage area clean, organized, stocked, and operating smoothly. This position is centered on maintaining the standards, discipline, and presentation expected across the bar and beverage program.
Uniform and appearance standards
- Wear the required black Twin Peaks hat facing forward at all times; the brim must remain unbent.
- Keep hair clean and fully secured under the hat.
- Be clean shaven; beards and mustaches are permitted if neatly maintained.
- Keep fingernails trimmed.
- No jewelry may be worn on the ears, face, neck, or wrists.
- Headphones and earbuds are not allowed.
- Wear a clean, non-faded, wrinkle-free Twin Peaks kitchen shirt tucked in.
Key duties
- Follow all uniform requirements.
- Observe rules and procedures that keep the bar clean and sanitized.
- Maintain orderly workstations and equipment.
- Consistently follow back-of-house standards, safety practices, sanitation rules, and GHS requirements.
- Work effectively as part of a team.
- Use tablets or a computer for training.
- Perform well in a fast-moving environment.
- Support opening and closing tasks such as restocking supplies, cleaning the bar, mopping, and related cleanup work.
- Keep the bar fully stocked throughout service.
- Swap kegs, inspect taps, and check appliances to ensure proper function and good repair.
- Handle additional tasks assigned by management when needed.
Qualifications and training
This role requires prior experience working as a Bar Back. Candidates must be able to communicate in English and understand the policies and procedures used to clean and sanitize a restaurant. The position also calls for practical judgment, the ability to follow simple instructions, and comfort working in standard, routine situations.
Certificates and compliance
Selected candidates must attend orientation, agree to the company’s training policies, and complete the training program before working unsupervised. Any other required training mandated by local or state regulations must also be completed, including food service and/or alcohol service certifications where applicable.
Physical requirements
This job involves frequent standing, walking, using hands and fingers to handle or carry items and controls, speaking, hearing, and reaching with arms. The role may require lifting or moving up to 30 pounds. Vision requirements include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
Work environment
While on the job, the Bar Back may encounter fumes or airborne particles from the kitchen, wet or humid conditions in the dish area or walk-in cooler, and cleaning chemicals that may be toxic or caustic. In some locations, exposure to cigarette or cigar smoke may also occur because of designated smoking areas.
