Role overview
This position is the entry-level role in a two-step appraisal career path. The technician supports the appraisal process by inspecting real and personal property and recording inspection results in the relevant computer systems.
Key duties
- Gather and organize information for real and personal property field reviews.
- Draft, revise, and format reports as needed.
- Update and maintain records in the automated appraisal platform for real and personal property.
- Answer property-related questions from customers and provide appropriate guidance.
- Help with property returns, exemption applications, and information tied to property assets and depreciation.
- Carry out on-site inspections of real estate and personal property.
- Check property measurements and confirm improvements or changes to property.
- Collect property attribute details that support appraisal work.
- Support taxpayers during review of assessed property values.
- Document inspection findings and related information for appraisal use.
- Record approved valuation changes when authorized.
- Prepare materials for annual board review.
- Review and process personal property returns.
- Research and maintain account information for aircraft as personal property.
- Complete personal property filing forms.
- Handle other comparable tasks assigned by the department.
Education and licensing
A high school diploma or GED is required. A valid State of Alaska driver's license is also required.
