About the Team
Global Banking & Markets supports clients by making markets and clearing transactions across major stock, options, and futures exchanges worldwide. The broader operations function works across the firm to deliver banking, securities, and asset management services while also strengthening risk controls and protecting the firm’s assets and reputation. Operations plays a central role in building and running the processes that support every new product and trade.
Role Impact
This position sits within Prime Brokerage & Clearing Operations and offers broad exposure across the investment bank. The selected candidate will collaborate with global teams across multiple divisions and is expected to help improve processes, refine procedures, and contribute to the team’s strategy. Training, ongoing support, and close oversight will be provided. This opportunity is well suited to someone interested in gaining experience across several Prime Brokerage & Clearing functions.
Team Overview
Prime Brokerage & Clearing Operations delivers clearing, execution, and custody support across more than 75 exchanges. Its clients include hedge funds, asset managers, governments, corporates, broker dealers, Goldman Sachs franchise traders, and other professional investors and market makers. The teams in this area manage centralized securities clearing and settlement, cash movements and payments, and the accuracy of client positions and transactions. The global footprint of the function includes London, Jersey City, Salt Lake City, Singapore, and Bengaluru. Key priorities are risk mitigation, high-quality client service, and strategic transformation.
Responsibilities
- Build and sustain effective working relationships with business, engineering, operations, and credit stakeholders, while actively supporting change and service improvement.
- Complete transactions within agreed service levels and continually raise processing quality while reducing mistakes and reinforcing a zero-error mindset.
- Handle payments, journals, and securities movements in line with firm policies.
- Track and resolve trade management exceptions by coordinating with clients, brokers, and other operations teams.
- Carry out pre-matching and fails management activities to help trades settle on time with counterparties.
- Identify and investigate cash and securities position breaks in the firm’s books and records.
- Respond to client queries with care, urgency, and strong service orientation.
- Escalate critical and high-value breaks promptly to senior management.
- Bring technical input to new process implementation, global standardization, risk reduction, efficiency improvements, and technology-convergence initiatives.
- Maintain daily checklists and ensure all controls, procedures, and process requirements are followed.
- Act as a change driver by addressing root causes and finding opportunities to automate workflows.
Requirements
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving environment.
- Excellent client service and relationship-building ability for working with clients and internal teams.
- Strong control mindset and a results-oriented approach focused on risk mitigation.
- Well-developed organizational skills.
- Comfort working to very strict deadlines and a zero-tolerance standard for errors.
- Ability to escalate issues quickly and communicate clearly.
- Flexibility to support projects and assist teammates when needed.
- 2+ years of experience in Securities Middle Office, trade settlement, cash payments, or trade support.
- Experience leading tasks, supervising work, or supporting and training junior team members is preferred.
- Exposure to control, reconciliation, or prime brokerage operations is desirable.
- Knowledge of equities markets and market structure is an advantage.
