VMware Administrator

Role summary

This position is responsible for building, running, and improving enterprise VMware virtualization and VDI environments. The role focuses on keeping systems highly available, secure, and tuned for strong performance and a smooth user experience.

Core responsibilities

• Set up, configure, and support VMware ESXi hosts, vCenter servers, and related infrastructure components.
• Administer virtual machine provisioning, resource distribution, and full lifecycle tasks.
• Track, analyze, and improve the performance of VMs, clusters, and storage platforms.
• Apply patches, carry out upgrades, and harden the VMware environment against security risks.
• Deploy, operate, and maintain VMware Horizon or similar VDI platforms.
• Improve the end-user virtual desktop experience, including profile handling and policy management.
• Manage user profiles, permission sets, and role-based access for virtual desktop environments.
• Perform routine updates, patch deployment, and software upgrade administration.
• Maintain the stability, reliability, security, and performance of virtual desktop systems.
• Monitor the infrastructure for issues and continuously tune it for optimal output.
• Design and maintain disaster recovery and backup approaches for VDI systems.
• Implement security controls and ensure compliance with internal policies and standards.
• Connect VMware platforms with storage arrays, SAN/NAS environments, and network infrastructure.
• Develop documentation, SOPs, and configuration standards for operational consistency.
• Support IT governance, cybersecurity, and audit compliance requirements.
• Assist with capacity planning, scaling efforts, and infrastructure modernization initiatives.
• Work with IT support, security, and application teams to keep operations running smoothly.
• Support hybrid cloud integration between VMware and Azure, including VMware Cloud on Azure and Azure Migrate.
• Plan and configure virtual networking, including vStandard and vDistributed switches and related policies.
• Plan and implement vSphere storage using VMFS and NFS datastores.
• Create, deploy, and manage virtual machines, vCloud vApps, and vCenter vApps.
• Manage clones, templates, HA, DRS, resource pools, and Storage vMotion activities.
• Administer vSphere using vSphere Operations Manager.
• Help plan and build a disaster recovery site using VMware technologies.
• Work on server hardware platforms such as HP, IBM, and Cisco.
• Architect solutions using VMware vSphere, vCloud, and Horizon View.
• Define infrastructure requirements for vSphere, vCenter, databases, client/web applications, and Single Sign-On.
• Map vCloud and vCenter resources and support secure administration of vSphere, vCloud, and Horizon/View technologies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
• At least 10 years of professional experience in VMware and related infrastructure administration.
• Deep hands-on knowledge of VMware vSphere and Horizon.
• Practical experience in VDI design, operation, and performance tuning.
• Solid understanding of virtual networking and storage configuration.
• Capability to design disaster recovery and backup solutions.
• Working knowledge of cloud and hybrid infrastructure environments.
• Strong troubleshooting and performance optimization skills.
• Preferred certifications include VMware Certified Professional (VCP), Microsoft or Azure/M365 certifications, and ITIL Foundation.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and communicate effectively in both Arabic and English.

Additional information

This role is based in Ras al-Khaimah, United Arab Emirates, and is structured as a full-time, onsite position. The employer is the Human Resources Department of Ras Al Khaimah Government.

Qualifications and experience

A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required, along with 10 years or more of relevant experience.

Languages

Arabic and English, both spoken and written, are essential for this position.

Certifications

VMware Certified Professional (VCP) is preferred. Microsoft or cloud certifications such as Azure/M365 are also preferred. ITIL Foundation is desirable.
