Position overview
The Winsor School is seeking a Visual Designer to create thoughtful, high-impact design work that supports the school’s communications strategy and strengthens the Winsor brand across print and digital channels. This role partners closely with the Director of Communications, the Communications team, senior leadership, faculty, and other stakeholders to deliver polished creative that serves advancement, enrollment, and recruitment priorities.
The ideal candidate is a client-oriented designer who can handle a busy and changing project load, build productive working relationships, explain design choices clearly, and consistently produce work that reflects a refined visual standard. A strong commitment to diversity, inclusion, and the school’s core principles is essential.
Key duties
- Develop and execute design approaches that help advance the school’s goals for student enrollment, alumni and donor engagement, and faculty and staff recruitment.
- Work with Communications colleagues and campus partners to turn project goals into effective visual concepts and finished materials.
- Lead creative projects from concept through production and final delivery, covering both internal assignments and larger multi-channel campaigns.
- Contribute to the production of the Winsor Bulletin, a biannual print and digital publication for alumni, students, parents, and donors.
- Create digital prototypes such as email templates and build print-ready mockups for items like invitations, booklet programs, and advancement appeals.
- Maintain and extend Winsor’s visual identity through strong use of layout, typography, photography, illustration, publishing, and video.
- Help others understand and apply brand standards so all work stays aligned with the school’s design expectations.
- Present creative ideas persuasively, explain the reasoning behind them, and help move discussions toward consensus.
- Improve communications workflows by organizing design and photography requests, campaign deliverables, timelines, and team processes.
- Track project priorities and resource availability using shared coordination systems.
- Stay current on new approaches and trends in integrated design and creative thinking.
Requirements and qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in graphic design, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
- At least 4 years of professional creative experience with increasing responsibility.
- Proven ability to drive strategic and creative results.
- Strong background in brand development and in supporting or managing complex, multi-faceted brands.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and project management abilities.
- Strong organization skills, including workflow and file management.
- Advanced experience with Adobe Creative Suite, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, project management tools, animation, and motion graphics.
- Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and content management systems.
- Experience coordinating with outside creative agencies and web or print vendors on large projects.
- A strong portfolio showing cohesive, high-quality campaign work across multiple platforms.
- Clear understanding of the full creative design process, including methodology, roles, client relationship management, project management, pricing, and contracting models.
Work environment and physical demands
- The role involves frequent talking, listening, walking, sitting, and standing.
- The position requires the ability to manage several tasks at once in a fast-paced setting.
- Employee must be able to lift or move up to 30 pounds.
Compensation and benefits
The salary range for this full-time exempt 12-month position is $80,000 to $100,000 per year. Benefits available from the start date include medical, dental, vision, and a 403(b) retirement plan.
