Job purpose
This role is focused on directing, organizing, and improving transportation activities across several projects. The Transportation Manager will oversee a large mixed fleet of light and heavy vehicles, ensuring strong safety performance, legal compliance, proactive maintenance, controlled costs, and smooth day-to-day operations that support construction work.
Fleet management
- Supervise a fleet of 300 to 1,000+ vehicles and heavy equipment used across multiple construction projects.
- Create transportation plans that improve fleet usage and overall operating efficiency.
- Make sure vehicles are available when required to meet project timelines and operational needs.
- Track fleet performance using KPIs and fleet management tools.
Transportation operations
- Organize and oversee daily transport activities across project locations.
- Improve vehicle assignment, route planning, and dispatch processes.
- Work closely with Project Managers and site teams to align transport support with project needs.
- Ensure people, materials, and equipment move on time.
Vehicle maintenance
- Manage preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
- Coordinate with workshops and maintenance staff to reduce vehicle downtime.
- Keep an eye on maintenance timetables, repair standards, and equipment reliability.
- Handle spare parts stock and maintenance spending.
Cost control
- Build and oversee transportation budgets.
- Monitor fuel usage and look for ways to reduce expenses.
- Review transport costs and suggest process improvements.
- Negotiate contracts with outside service providers when needed.
Safety and compliance
- Ensure all fleet activities follow Saudi traffic laws and the company HSE requirements.
- Maintain accurate records for vehicle registration, insurance, licensing, and inspections.
- Look into transportation incidents and apply corrective measures.
- Encourage defensive driving practices and road safety awareness.
Team leadership
- Manage transportation supervisors, dispatchers, fleet coordinators, and drivers.
- Set performance goals and carry out regular reviews.
- Prepare training and skills development plans for employees.
Reporting
- Produce monthly management reports covering fleet utilization, vehicle availability, maintenance performance, fuel efficiency, transport costs, driver performance, accident figures, and KPI results.
Qualifications and experience
A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Transportation, Logistics, Business Administration, or a similar discipline is required. Professional certification in Fleet Management or Logistics is an added advantage.
Candidates should have at least 10 years of experience in transportation and fleet management, including a minimum of 5 years in a supervisory or managerial role. Prior work in large construction, EPC, infrastructure, or contracting organizations is mandatory. Experience handling fleets of 300+ vehicles, along with a solid background in fleet maintenance and workshop operations, is also required. Exposure to transportation management across multiple construction projects is essential.
