Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) is the national body in charge of the secure custody, rehabilitation, and reintegration of people in prison in Zimbabwe. It aims to run safe correctional institutions while supporting humane care and personal growth for those in custody. ZPCS also cooperates with justice-sector partners to strengthen public safety and uphold the rule of law, with a strong focus on professionalism, integrity, and ongoing improvement.
Role Overview
This is a full-time, on-site position in Harare for a Training Officer who will plan, deliver, and assess learning programs for ZPCS personnel. The role calls for identifying training needs, creating and refreshing training content, and leading both classroom-based and practical sessions. The officer will also manage induction for new employees, arrange refresher training, and make sure all learning activities follow internal policy and legal standards.
Core Duties
- Carry out training needs assessments and translate gaps into practical learning plans.
- Develop, revise, and maintain training materials and course content.
- Facilitate classroom instruction and hands-on training sessions.
- Run induction programmes for new staff and coordinate refresher courses.
- Track attendance, keep accurate training records, and prepare progress reports.
- Work with line managers to identify performance shortfalls and address them through targeted training.
- Review the impact of training activities and suggest improvements where needed.
- Promote a workplace culture of continuous professional development.
Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants should have a relevant diploma or degree in Human Resources, Education, Training and Development, Psychology, or a closely related discipline. Prior exposure to a correctional, security, or public-sector setting will be considered an added advantage. The role also requires the ability to work within formal procedures, maintain detailed records, and manage sensitive information carefully. Candidates should be comfortable using basic computer tools such as word processors, spreadsheets, and presentation software to prepare learning materials and reports.
