Role overview

Scale AI’s International Public Sector organization is expanding quickly and is focused on applying artificial intelligence to some of the most urgent problems faced by governments and public institutions worldwide. The team’s work spans building tailored AI products that can affect millions of citizens, producing high-quality training data for custom large language models, and providing upskilling and advisory support to help public sector teams adopt AI effectively.

As a Staff Full Stack Software Engineer in a forward deployed role, you will work closely with public sector stakeholders to design and deliver complete AI-powered applications that address high-priority needs and create measurable public impact. This role is intended for someone who can lead technical direction in uncertain environments and help shape a founding team as it builds solutions for government clients.

What you will do

• Act as the primary technical lead on public sector engagements, translating unclear mission needs into practical architecture plans and overseeing implementation on site.
• Create the core structure for production-ready AI products, ensuring user interfaces, backend services, and AI models work together reliably at scale.
• Guide cloud architecture decisions with a focus on security, worldwide scalability, and durable system integrity across environments.
• Lead development of foundational platforms and shared services that can support a broad range of global customer use cases.
• Work with cross-functional leaders to shape the technical roadmap, mentor both senior and junior engineers, and keep all products aligned with a consistent long-term architecture.
• Translate learnings from field deployments into reusable engineering patterns that can improve the broader platform and team velocity.

What the role calls for

The ideal candidate brings a Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, or equivalent deep industry experience building complex distributed systems. You should have 10+ years of full-stack engineering experience across Python, Node.js, and React, along with a strong record of designing high-scale systems on Kubernetes and global cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.

You will need the ability to design and oversee production-grade environments with high standards for reliability, security, and long-term scalability. Experience deploying and debugging advanced end-to-end systems inside complex, high-security client settings is important, as is the ability to work through extreme ambiguity, mentor experienced engineers, and define technical direction for the organization. The role also favors people who work well in asynchronous, documentation-led teams and help reduce friction across globally distributed engineering workflows.

Preferred background

• Experience as a CTO, founding engineer, or forward deployed/dedicated customer engineer at a startup.
• Background working closely with operations teams.
• Experience building solutions powered by large language models, with the ability to anticipate market shifts and design future-ready systems.
• Ability to speak Arabic.

Additional information

This role is based in Doha, Qatar and is a full-time onsite position.

Scale AI requires a 90-day waiting period before a candidate can be reconsidered for the same role.
