Role overview
KierBAM is hiring a Service Locator to support its team in Plymouth at Devonport Royal Dockyard. This role sits within a joint venture between Kier and BAM Nuttall, contributing to a redevelopment programme at a Royal Navy site. The position is focused on identifying underground services accurately and helping teams work safely around them.
Working pattern and location
The role is based in Plymouth, Devonport Royal Dockyard. The standard working pattern is 42.5 hours per week, and there may be some flexibility on hours if needed.
Key duties
- Use geophysical methods to find underground utilities and clearly mark their position, including the service type and approximate depth.
- Prepare, approve, and keep Permit to Break Surface records current in line with project rules and site procedures.
- Brief work teams on the services within their area and guide them on safe working practices.
- Run site briefings using an 8-point checklist and maintain exclusion zones around any affected services.
- Work with the BOSC team to resolve record discrepancies and ensure service drawings remain accurate and current.
Experience and technical knowledge
The ideal candidate will bring strong hands-on experience with electromagnetic location tools and ground penetrating radar. A good working knowledge of PAS 128, TSA, HSG-47, and GS-6 is expected, along with confidence using GPR, CAT, and Genny utility detection equipment.
Compliance and security
Because of the sensitive nature of the site, security clearance is mandatory. BPSS clearance is required and may take up to 8 weeks to complete. The role also requires SC Clearance or CTC, carried out during or before employment by UKSV. Candidates must hold a passport from a NATO or MISWG member country and must have lived in the UK for the last 5 years. Certificates of sponsorship cannot be provided for this position. Further pre-employment checks will also apply.
Additional information
Kier is committed to creating an inclusive workplace and encourages diversity across its teams. As a Disability Confident employer, fair interview consideration will be given to disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria. Applicants with convictions will be considered individually, and the company states that it does not discriminate on the basis of conviction history.
Rewards and benefits
A tailored benefits package is available, with a range of options designed to suit individual needs.
Ideal candidate profile
This opportunity will suit someone who communicates clearly, works well with colleagues and clients on site, and has a strong focus on safety and accuracy. A CSCS card is required or must be obtained before starting, and QCF Level 3 or Level 5 certification in utility mapping would be an advantage.
