Role overview

The Senior Data Scientist will be responsible for building and applying advanced analytical and machine learning solutions that support the creation, monitoring, and upkeep of data products such as Scores, Attributes, and other Data Services. The position works closely with Data Engineering, Product, and Technology teams to promote data-led decisions and improve product performance.

The core focus is on product-related work rather than client assignments, with only limited or no direct involvement in customer projects. The role also includes monitoring the Bureau Data Asset and continuously improving the Bureau Data Ingestion Pipeline.

  • Validate models thoroughly to protect accuracy and integrity.
  • Record methods, workflows, and findings to ensure transparency and reproducibility.
  • Pull, transform, and study data from the data lake to support product build and monitoring activities.
  • Assist Legal and Compliance teams with consumer complaints, score-related questions, and policy or regulatory updates.
  • Keep up with trends and new developments in machine learning and data science.
  • Deliver high-quality models and analysis on time.
  • Help improve the precision and overall performance of data products.
  • Contribute to new product capabilities and enhancements.
  • Support product management with data-based decision-making.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to guide strategic decisions.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a similar discipline.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and careful attention to detail.
  • Solid understanding of statistical techniques and machine learning methods, particularly logistic regression and boosted trees.
  • Hands-on programming experience in Python or Scala.
  • Practical knowledge of machine learning tools such as XGBoost, PyTorch, or scikit-learn.
  • Experience extracting and working with data from data lakes or large-scale storage systems using SQL and Spark.
  • Ability to examine complex business and risk processes and convert them into useful data models.
  • Comfort interpreting analytical models in a business setting rather than treating them only as theory.
  • Prior exposure to the credit bureau or financial services sector is beneficial, though not required.
  • Strong communication skills to explain technical findings clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Good collaboration skills and the ability to work independently while managing several tasks at once.

Perks and benefits

  • Considerable autonomy within a fast-moving, globally oriented organization.
  • A committed team that encourages innovation and teamwork.
  • Competitive compensation and an appealing employee benefits package.
  • Flexible working hours and the option to work remotely.

Equal opportunity

Experian is committed to equal opportunity and affirmative action. The company values a diverse workforce and believes everyone should be able to bring their full self to work, regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion, colour, sexuality, physical ability, or age. Applicants who need workplace adjustments or special accommodation due to a disability or other need are encouraged to share this as early as possible.

Additional information

The role is focused primarily on internal product work and has little or no client-project exposure.
