Role overview
HMP Erlestoke is recruiting an Operational Support Grade to help keep the prison operating safely and efficiently. This is a busy, hands-on position within a supportive team, covering a mix of security, admin-style work, and practical duties across the site.
What the role involves
You will support the day-to-day running of the prison by carrying out a wide range of tasks, including gate security and searches, handling deliveries, supervising visitors, and observing phone calls and CCTV. The work combines desk-based responsibilities with physical activity such as lifting, carrying, and walking to escort vehicles around the prison grounds.

No formal qualifications are needed for this position. The role is suited to someone who communicates well, stays composed in pressured situations, uses sound judgement, and works effectively as part of a team.
Working pattern
This post involves shift work, including weekends and night shifts, to ensure the prison continues to run smoothly at all times.

Pay and benefits
The salary for this role is £30,491. Alongside base pay, you will receive paid annual leave starting at 25 days on appointment, rising to 30 days after 10 years of service on a pro-rata basis, plus 9 days of bank, public and privilege holidays.
