Role Overview

This opening is for a Mainframe Engineer / Mainframe Developer based in Hyderabad. The role is centered on IBM Z and mainframe engineering work, with an emphasis on optimization, modernization, automation, and DevSecOps practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Work on IBM Z mainframe systems with a strong focus on engineering, modernization, and technical leadership.
• Improve performance through tuning, optimization, and automation initiatives.
• Review code, contribute to solution design, and mentor team members.
• Support agile delivery practices and continuous improvement efforts.
• Lead and coordinate global teams while managing priorities and execution.
• Provide clear, constructive feedback to both technical and non-technical colleagues.
• Communicate effectively across levels of the organization to influence outcomes and drive results.

Requirements

• At least 8 years of experience as a senior software engineer or technical lead on the IBM Z platform.
• Practical experience in mainframe performance tuning, optimization methods, modernization, and automation.
• Strong hands-on expertise in REXX, COBOL, JCL, IMS, and DB2.
• Working knowledge of DevSecOps practices and cloud technologies.
• Familiarity with Python, SMF, DCOLLECT, and MIPS consumption on mainframe systems.
• Proven ability to manage teams, organize work effectively, and motivate a distributed workforce.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Comfort with working in agile environments and supporting continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with DevOps on Z, mainframe transformation, and modernization programs.
• Exposure to AI-assisted tools such as Copilot, GitHub, and analysis-oriented tooling.
• Ability to collaborate with globally distributed teams and build multi-level working relationships.
• Experience across a varied application portfolio will be an added advantage.
