Role overview

The Laundry Attendant is responsible for processing hotel linens and related items by washing, drying, ironing, folding, and handling them in line with company procedures, brand standards, and applicable federal, state, and local rules. The role also includes promptly reporting emergencies, accidents, injuries, missing property, damage, maintenance concerns, and any safety risks to management.

Key responsibilities

• Separate, wash, dry, fold, press, and prepare linens, towels, bed sheets, and other laundry items according to established hotel procedures.
• Operate laundry equipment such as washers, dryers, ironing machines, and folding stations while keeping them in proper working condition.
• Review cleaned items for quality, including stains, tears, and other defects, and take appropriate action when issues are found.
• Follow special care instructions for delicate fabrics and any items that require extra handling to avoid damage.
• Keep an orderly stock of clean linens and towels so guest rooms, restaurants, dining areas, and other departments remain well supplied.
• Track linen quantities, replenishment thresholds, and restocking schedules.
• Clean, maintain, and monitor laundry equipment, and report repair or service needs to the correct department.
• Use safe operating practices when working with laundry machinery.
• Work closely with housekeepers, Housekeeping Housepersons, and other hotel teams to ensure a continuous flow of clean linen and towel supply for rooms, food service areas, and event spaces.

Qualifications and skills

• High school diploma or an equivalent credential.
• Prior experience in laundry work, ideally within a hotel or hospitality environment.
• Understanding of fabric types, washing methods, and garment care practices.
• Strong attention to detail to spot stains, damage, and quality concerns.
• Basic familiarity with laundry machinery and equipment.
• Good organizational ability and the capacity to handle several tasks efficiently.
• Physical stamina for repetitive duties and lifting heavy bags of laundry.
• Strong commitment to hygiene and cleanliness standards.
• Availability for flexible scheduling, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Working conditions

This position involves significant physical activity. Duties may require standing and walking for long periods, as well as climbing, bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Work is performed partly in an indoor hotel environment and may involve laundry equipment and machines. The job may also expose the employee to extreme temperatures, chemicals, dirt, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and loud noise. Because of these conditions, basic safety precautions and the use of protective equipment are required.
