Role Overview
The Lairage and Yard Coordinator will report to the Supervisor and support inbound live haul shipments as well as yard operations at the London poultry site. The position calls for strong coordination across departments, clear communication, and a team-oriented, supportive approach.
Work Location and Schedule
The job is based at 1577 Wilton Grove Road, London, Ontario, Canada. This is a full-time, on-site role with a Monday to Friday shift pattern.
Key Duties
- Coordinate the arrival of incoming live loads and manage lairage separation for RWA, Organic, and Conventional birds.
- Complete lairage monitoring records at the required intervals.
- Act as the primary on-site contact for the live procurement team.
- Work with the Live Receiving Supervisor, Assistant Supervisor, and live procurement team to decide on slaughter-related changes.
- Make sure data entered into the Live Bird Handling system is accurate and corrected when necessary.
- Confirm that the scale is functioning correctly, is calibrated on schedule, and that scale tickets are collected and recorded.
- Oversee snow clearing and keep the scale area free from dirt and debris.
- Arrange bird movement from the holding barn when needed.
- Ensure barn fans are working, coordinate side adjustments during winter, and keep doors operating as required.
- Handle snow removal, salting, and sanding at all man-door entrances and safety exits.
- Carry out yard upkeep such as lawn mowing, weed removal, parking lot sweeping, garbage collection, and other tasks assigned by management.
- Perform any additional duties assigned by management.
Compensation and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $26 to $27.50 per hour, depending on progression. Health and dental coverage begins after 2 months of service, and eligibility for the MLF Pension Plan starts after 2 years of service.
Experience and Qualifications
A minimum of 2 years of industry experience in lairage control and live bird care is required. A high school diploma or higher is needed. Candidates must hold a valid driver’s licence; AZ or DZ certification, or related experience, is considered an advantage. The employer may also ask the selected candidate to complete company-provided shunt truck driving training so they can act as a backup for shunting.
Skills and Attributes
The ideal candidate will be highly organized, able to manage time effectively, show initiative, and adapt quickly. Strong independence, self-motivation, and the ability to work with minimal supervision are important. The role also requires confident, decisive, and effective communication in both written and verbal form.
