Role overview

This position is centered on janitorial work and direct interaction with customers at the facility. Prior experience is helpful but not mandatory for every assignment. The role requires someone who can work with limited supervision and keep the site clean, safe, and presentable.

Key duties

  • Carry out scheduled cleaning and maintenance tasks from checklists and supervisor instructions to remove dirt, dust, litter, and debris from all parts of the facility using brooms, mops, brushes, and other hand tools.
  • Make regular daily rounds to collect and dispose of trash and loose debris.
  • Empty waste containers throughout the site, including those in offices and exterior areas.
  • Identify and report burnt-out bulbs and any equipment that is not working correctly.
  • Clean up spills promptly.
  • Submit repair or maintenance requests when needed.
  • Follow OSHA safety rules and procedures at all times.
  • Clean restrooms thoroughly.
  • Track janitorial supplies and keep basic inventory records.
  • Complete and maintain the daily janitorial service log.
  • Use commercial cleaning equipment where the assignment requires it.
  • Shovel and clear snow from entrances, exits, and other areas assigned by the Facility Manager, using shovels and related equipment.
  • Escalate suspected policy violations, safety concerns, or unusual incidents to the Facility Manager without delay.
  • Apply the company’s customer satisfaction approach, including the five customer service behaviors, to support positive interactions.
  • Help customers inside the facility or as directed by the Facility Manager/Supervisor.
  • Handle customer complaints independently when possible, or with supervisor support when needed.
  • Stay aware of all aspects of the operation and take on additional duties as needed.
  • Maintain a tidy appearance and remain in proper uniform before and during assigned shifts.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Applicants should be able to carry out all essential duties successfully. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for qualified individuals with disabilities.

A high school diploma or a combination of education and relevant experience is required. Depending on the facility and assignment, the role may call for facility maintenance, electrical, or painting experience, or related skills training.

If the role requires driving a company vehicle or driving for company business, a valid state-issued driver’s license with a current address and an acceptable driving record must be maintained.

Shift needs vary by location and business demand. In some cases, third shift and/or weekend availability may be necessary.

The role requires strong spoken and written English skills, the ability to read and interpret written instructions, a customer-focused attitude, adaptability to changing situations, sound judgment, and professionalism under pressure.

Physical requirements

This job involves frequent use of hands and fingers, communication with customers and coworkers, prolonged standing or walking for up to 8 hours, and regular sitting, reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, twisting, turning, stretching, and bending. The employee must be able to lift and move 50 pounds or more on a regular basis, move quickly when needed, and use close vision, peripheral vision, and focus adjustment. The work environment may include dust, chemicals, other irritants, and extreme weather such as rain, snow, cold, and heat.

Compensation and benefits

The pay rate is $21.50 per hour.

Eligible employees may receive medical, dental, and vision coverage, flexible spending accounts, long-term and short-term disability coverage, life insurance, accident insurance, a 401(k) plan, and paid time off.

Equal opportunity and hiring technology

The employer follows an equal opportunity policy and does not discriminate in hiring, training, promotion, or any other job category based on race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, citizenship status, marital status, sexual orientation, veteran status, disability, or other protected categories. Harassment or retaliation based on these characteristics, or on the exercise of EEO rights, is not tolerated.

The employer may use an automated employment decision tool to help evaluate candidates against the role’s requirements and responsibilities. Personal information relevant to the application may be retained for a period reasonably necessary for use of that tool, and if hired, it may become part of employee records. Applicants to a New York City job posting who need an alternative selection process accommodation or have questions about data retention may contact the employer directly.
