Role overview

An established organisation in the Manchester area is hiring an experienced IT Director to steer technology direction, oversee day-to-day IT operations, and lead digital change across the business and its subsidiaries. The role carries significant influence and focuses on building secure, dependable, and scalable technology services while modernising infrastructure, business applications, cybersecurity, software rollouts, and operational workflows.

Key responsibilities

• Create and execute a group-wide IT strategy, governance structure, and technology roadmap that supports business goals.
• Direct all IT service delivery activities, including the service desk, infrastructure, networks, business systems, and end-user support across several locations.
• Lead enterprise software rollout programmes from planning and implementation through user adoption and post-launch support.
• Take ownership of management systems, improving efficiency, compliance, and continuous improvement.
• Build stronger controls around cybersecurity, data protection, business continuity, compliance, and risk.
• Assess and adopt new technologies, including AI tools and AI agents, to improve productivity and business outcomes.
• Oversee IT budgets, technology spend, vendor partnerships, and contracts to deliver strong value and service quality.
• Guide, coach, and grow a multi-skilled IT team while promoting innovation, accountability, and high service standards.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, offering strategic input on technology opportunities and risks.

What the employer is looking for

• Background in a senior technology leadership position such as IT Director, Head of IT, or a similar role.
• Proven ability to manage IT operations across multi-site or multi-entity organisations.
• Strong command of IT service management and operational delivery, ideally in an ITIL-aligned setting.
• History of delivering large-scale transformation, enterprise system implementations, and technology modernisation projects.
• Experience with enterprise software deployments and application rollouts across different business areas; this is particularly valuable.
• Solid cybersecurity leadership experience, preferably in regulated, complex, or security-sensitive environments.
• Hands-on experience managing IT budgets, suppliers, contracts, and technical teams.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Azure, cloud platforms, infrastructure, and modern workplace security.
• Experience in healthcare or another regulated sector would be an advantage.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management, and executive-level influencing skills.
