Role overview
This position calls for an experienced Electrical Engineer to support and oversee project execution in Abu Dhabi. The role is focused on construction and installation work, with responsibility for ensuring technical accuracy, site coordination, safety, quality, and timely delivery across power plant, substation, and related engineering projects.
Experience and qualifications
Applicants should hold a Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering field. Additional technical certifications or specialist training connected to construction, civil works, power plant operations, or substation projects will be considered an advantage.
A minimum of 3 years and up to 10 years of relevant work experience is required. Experience gained in civil engineering projects, power plants, or electrical substations is preferred. Prior exposure to projects in the Gulf countries and/or India is highly desirable, especially where regional standards, practices, and compliance requirements were involved. Experience working with diverse project teams and multicultural environments will be beneficial.
Technical background
The candidate should have practical, hands-on involvement in engineering project delivery, especially across construction, installation, testing, and commissioning phases. Strong ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documentation is important.
Relevant working knowledge is expected in areas such as quality management, safety and environmental control, risk handling, subcontractor coordination, and overall project execution and monitoring. Experience with electrical installation, cable laying, transformer erection, switchgear installation, and testing in power plant or substation settings will be given strong preference.
Leadership and site management
This role requires proven supervisory capability and the confidence to manage teams on site. The selected candidate should be able to lead effectively, keep project goals on track, and ensure efficient day-to-day site operations.
The engineer will be expected to supervise site activities, guide engineers, technicians, and workers, allocate manpower and resources wisely, monitor progress against milestones, and resolve technical or operational issues quickly to avoid disruption.
Communication and coordination
Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential. The role involves regular interaction with clients, consultants, vendors, suppliers, and internal project teams. The candidate should be comfortable leading meetings, sharing progress updates, and handling issues through collaborative discussion. Clear written communication is also needed for reports, records, and official correspondence.
Personal qualities
The ideal candidate should be self-driven, results-focused, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. Key strengths should include structured problem-solving, careful attention to detail, effective time management, adaptability in changing project conditions, and sound decision-making under pressure.
Additional expectations
Familiarity with local regulations and international standards relevant to electrical and civil engineering work is expected. A good understanding of project documents such as method statements, inspection test plans (ITPs), and project schedules will be important. The role also demands a strong commitment to safety, quality, and professional conduct at all times.
Summary
This opportunity is best suited to an experienced engineering professional with a strong background in civil, power plant, or substation projects. Success in the role will depend on combining technical knowledge, leadership ability, and communication skills to manage projects effectively. Gulf-region experience and a sound grasp of quality, safety, and project management practices will be valuable.
