About the Organisation

This role sits within NHS Lanarkshire, an organisation that places patients at the centre of its work. The team supports healthcare delivery across a combined population of around 655,000 people in rural and urban parts of North and South Lanarkshire. Its structure includes Acute Services across three main hospital sites, Corporate, Property and Support Services, and North and South Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnerships delivering integrated health and social care locally.

The Role

The Domestic Assistant will deliver cleaning and domestic support for patients, staff, and visitors across NHS Lanarkshire premises. The aim is to maintain a clean, secure, and welcoming environment while meeting NHS Lanarkshire and Hospital Acquired Infections (HAI) standards. The role also involves working alongside and supporting new colleagues in the workplace.

Working Pattern

The scheduled working hours for this post are 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm, with 4 shifts worked across 7 days.

Key Duties

  • Carry out a variety of cleaning activities using machinery, tools, and cleaning equipment, including tasks that involve manual lifting and handling.
  • Make sure cleaning is completed to the expected standard, and notify the supervisor of any areas that could not be cleaned because access was not possible or for similar reasons.
  • Use cleaning chemicals and materials in line with health and safety duties and COSHH requirements.
  • Clean all assigned equipment, furniture, fittings, and surfaces, including bedside communication arm units, bed frames, patient chairs, and other items listed in the Daily Weekly Cleaning Schedules (DWCS) or job schedules.
  • Complete all duties assigned through the Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) system.
  • Accurately finish and sign off the DWCS each day so that audit and monitoring records are properly maintained.

What You Will Need

You should have a working understanding of cleaning standards and related procedures. This post requires on-the-job induction and training, usually lasting 4 to 6 weeks depending on the days and hours worked, so that full competence can be achieved across the duties involved. You should also have practical knowledge of health and safety, including the ability to take part in risk assessments for individual tasks. If identified through an appropriate risk assessment, you may also need to complete Prevention, Assessment & Management Of Violence & Aggression (PaMOVA) training at levels 1 and 2.

Training and Development

The successful candidate will be expected to complete induction and workplace training, which typically takes 4 to 6 weeks based on working pattern, to become fully competent in the full range of responsibilities.

Benefits

  • 35 days of annual leave, including public holidays
  • Access to a generous NHS pension scheme
