Key duties

  • Prepare work sites for concrete placement by measuring and marking the area, setting levels and grades, and clearing debris.
  • Install forms for concrete pours and estimate the quantity of concrete needed for each job.
  • Oversee the pour, distribute concrete within the form, consolidate it, level it to the required depth and finish, and shape the surface and expansion joints.
  • Complete final finishing work to achieve the required texture, remove imperfections, and patch voids or damaged spots.
  • Break out deteriorated concrete, remove debris, and repair potholes and other surface damage.
  • Operate department equipment and tools such as dump trucks, front-end loaders, backhoes, tamping machines, cement mixers, air compressors, jackhammers, chainsaws, concrete saws, hand tools, and related implements.
  • Move, load, and unload equipment and materials needed for project completion.
  • Carry out manual labor tasks that may include lifting heavy materials, shoveling, debris pickup, and placing signs or barricades.
  • Keep equipment, tools, and machinery in working order through routine checks, cleaning, lubrication, fluid checks, and other basic maintenance tasks; report defective equipment when found.
  • Collect, stage, and transport tools, supplies, and materials to job locations; request additional materials when needed.
  • Complete forms, reports, work orders, maps, and other documentation as assigned.
  • Communicate by phone or radio, share information, relay messages, and respond to service or information requests from employees, officials, the public, and others.
  • May step in for a supervisor when needed, including reviewing work, helping maintain standards, and providing backup support to coworkers or other departments.
  • Perform any other job-related duties assigned.

Qualifications and requirements
