Deskripsi pekerjaan
Role Overview
A Trainee Communications Operator role in the Irish Defence Forces places you at the centre of military activity while helping you build practical technical capabilities. The Defence Forces of Ireland, made up of the Army, Navy and Air Corps, serve to protect the State, support national security, and contribute to peace and security abroad. People in the organisation work to high standards, with strong emphasis on discipline, initiative and teamwork.
Training Pathway
New entrants join as General Service Recruits. The pathway begins with 12 weeks of Recruit Training, during which you learn the basic military skills expected of every Defence Forces member, including discipline, teamwork, fitness and leadership. This is then followed by another 12 weeks of 2-3 Star training, where your military knowledge and experience continue to grow.
After completing these stages successfully, you move into specialist Communications Operator training within the CIS Corps (Communications and Information Services). This phase focuses on operating and maintaining military communications systems and delivering secure, dependable voice, data and radio communications to support units during training, routine operations and overseas deployments.
Role Purpose
Communications Operators are essential to keeping commanders and units connected during operations. The position blends technical learning, troubleshooting and team-based work, and it takes place in a modern, fast-moving environment.
Rewards and Support During Training
While completing the three parts of training, you receive full pay along with free meals and accommodation in barracks. You also have access to free medical support, including dental, pharmacy and physiotherapy services, as well as gym facilities.
Career Development
This pathway suits people who are motivated by technology, collaboration and working within a structured operational setting. It offers the chance to develop specialist technical capability, with an opportunity to progress toward a CIS Technician role. The skills gained can support careers across the CIS Corps and contribute to cyber capability, as well as Army, Navy, Air Corps, Special Operations Forces and Intelligence functions, serving both in Ireland and overseas.
