Job Purpose
The Business Development Manager will lead growth efforts for the Expat Banking proposition by turning market intelligence into action, building strategic alliances, engaging key stakeholders, and supporting acquisition through focused relationship development. This position links frontline teams, corporate partners, and internal departments to maintain a strong pipeline of qualified leads and help deliver a premium onboarding journey for priority clients. It also represents the bank at external forums, helps improve products through structured feedback, and equips senior leaders with clear performance insights.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather market intelligence to spot growth opportunities, client needs, and emerging trends within the expat segment.
- Design and implement strategic initiatives that improve the bank’s market position and strengthen the value proposition.
- Share practical recommendations with senior leadership on positioning and product direction.
- Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with corporate partners, intermediaries, and internal stakeholders to support referrals and acquisition growth.
- Serve as the connection point between frontline teams, product specialists, and operational teams to keep client journeys aligned and efficient.
- Create targeted engagement plans that drive a higher volume of quality referrals into the acquisition funnel.
- Equip frontline teams with insights, tools, and frameworks that improve client conversations and service quality.
- Promote cross-functional collaboration across products, marketing, risk, and operations to deliver a premium expat banking experience.
- Coordinate work across teams to improve onboarding, reduce friction, and support priority client engagement.
- Partner with the Account Opening Team to ensure referred prospects experience a smooth and well-managed onboarding process.
- Monitor referral movement, pipeline quality, and conversion drivers, and propose improvements where needed.
- Represent the bank at industry events, seminars, and client forums as an ambassador for the expat banking proposition.
- Collect structured feedback from partners, clients, and market discussions to support product enhancement and service refinement.
- Work with product teams so that client needs are reflected in proposition development.
- Prepare recurring performance reports, dashboards, and insights for senior leaders covering acquisition trends, partnership performance, and growth opportunities.
- Track key performance indicators and evaluate the impact of strategic initiatives, recommending actions for continuous improvement.
- Support the department’s responsibilities as the first line of defence for financial crime prevention, including AML and sanctions compliance.
- Ensure departmental work follows NBKI Financial Crime Policy and Procedures.
- Help maintain effective financial crime controls within the department and raise material risks promptly to the MLRO and/or Managing Director.
- Contribute to the annual Business AML Risk Assessment produced by the MLRO.
Experience and Qualifications
- Background in business development within financial services, preferably in international, expat, or affluent banking segments.
- Proven success in generating growth through relationship development, partnerships, or referral channels.
- Experience working with frontline teams and supporting acquisition pipelines and conversion outcomes.
- Strong stakeholder management skills in complex matrixed environments involving product, risk, marketing, and operations.
- Experience building and managing external partnerships such as corporates, relocation firms, or global mobility companies.
- Strong ability to analyze market trends, competitor activity, and client needs, then convert insights into action.
- Experience representing an organisation at events, conferences, or partner engagements.
- Capability in performance reporting, pipeline management, KPI tracking, and presenting insights to senior leaders.
- Client-focused background, particularly in premium or high-net-worth onboarding journeys.
- Exposure to expat, international, or offshore banking propositions is preferred.
- Experience with globally mobile clients, expats, or multinational corporate clients is an advantage.
- Experience in proposition development or product improvement cycles is desirable.
- Background in corporate engagement programs is beneficial.
- Understanding of cross-border regulations is an added advantage.
- Data-driven strategy experience is desirable.

Compliance and Financial Crime Responsibilities
As a client-facing function, the Expat Banking department is part of the first line of defence against financial crime risks, including money laundering, terrorist financing, and sanctions breaches. The role is expected to reinforce shared responsibility for managing these risks, ensure all work follows the bank’s Financial Crime Policy and Procedures, support effective control operation, understand department-level financial crime exposure, contribute to the annual Business AML Risk Assessment, and escalate any material financial crime concerns immediately to the MLRO and/or Managing Director.
