Role summary
FM Investments Management (FMIM) is looking for an Analyst in Private Equity to join its expanding private equity and private markets platform. The position centers on assessing direct and co-investment opportunities across multiple sectors while partnering with senior investment professionals through the full deal process. Work will include opportunity screening, due diligence, and the creation of investment committee materials and recommendation memos.
The analyst will also build and review detailed financial models for potential investments, evaluate value creation drivers, downside exposure, and return sensitivity, and support portfolio construction, risk review, and performance tracking. The role contributes to investment views that fit FM’s long-term capital goals and disciplined approach to risk.
Schedule and location
This is a full-time, exempt, office-based role located in Boston, Massachusetts.
Responsibilities
- Review incoming investment opportunities and identify those worth deeper analysis.
- Research investment themes and maintain awareness of private equity market developments.
- Assess direct deals and co-investments spanning buyout, growth, and special situations strategies.
- Carry out due diligence and prepare written investment recommendations and memos.
- Build valuation models using financial statements, projections, and peer-company performance data.
- Monitor existing portfolio investments, including quarterly operating results, valuation changes, and KPI trends.
- Develop and analyze financial models for portfolio and prospective investments.
- Complete GP due diligence, including return attribution, track record review, and qualitative evaluation of teams and processes.
Requirements
- 1 to 3 years of experience, ideally in private equity, investment banking, asset management, or another financial services setting.
- Strong analytical thinking, structured problem-solving ability, and close attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities at once without losing accuracy.
- Sound judgment and the confidence to communicate ideas clearly and persuasively.
- Solid command of Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint, along with strong financial modeling and valuation skills.
- Advanced Excel capability is required.
- Experience assessing private equity funds and/or co-investments is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related discipline.
