Role overview
The College of the North Atlantic is hiring a Payroll Clerk II to deliver end-to-end payroll support for employees across all campuses in Newfoundland and Labrador. This position focuses on accurate bi-weekly payroll processing, payroll reporting, statutory remittances, employee support, and the maintenance of compliant payroll records.
Compensation
This role is placed in CG27 and pays between $47,301.80 and $52,306.80 per year.
Key responsibilities
- Run the bi-weekly payroll cycle, prepare payroll reports, complete statutory and other remittances, and answer employee payroll questions with clear guidance.
- Work with employees and managers to investigate payroll issues, make corrections where needed, and issue Records of Employment and T4 slips when required.
- Check payroll records for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with legislation, collective agreements, internal policies, and payroll procedures.
- Keep employee payroll records current, including banking information, tax details, and deductions.
- Review and calculate special payroll adjustments such as unpaid leave, partial pay periods, workers’ compensation, and other non-routine cases.
- Confirm eligibility for Labrador Northern Allowance and travel benefits and ensure the amounts are entered correctly into the payroll system.
- Respond to Employment Insurance requests from Service Canada and provide the required payroll documents within deadlines.
- Carry out preliminary calculations and audit checks before final payroll processing to identify and correct issues early.
- Coordinate with College divisions and external agencies to support payroll operations, resolve discrepancies, and complete monthly reconciliations.
- Perform payroll-related clerical work such as filing, data entry, and record maintenance.
- Handle additional duties as needed to support the payroll team and the overall function.
Required qualifications
- A diploma in Business Administration is required, though equivalent education may be considered.
- Previous experience in payroll or a payroll-related setting, including payroll processing or payroll support duties, is required.

Work arrangement
This position is not eligible for telework. The selected candidate must report to campus each day, although occasional ad hoc arrangements may be considered when appropriate.
Location options
The role may be based at Headquarters-Stephenville, Grand Falls-Windsor, or St. John’s campus.
