Role Summary
Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer and partnering closely with the department leadership team, the Manager, Communications & PR will support a distinctive, fully dedicated communications function that operates independently at the firm level. This person will help guide a high-performing team of communications professionals and serve as a dependable advisor to attorneys and professional staff.
The role involves coordinating communications efforts across practice areas such as litigation, investigations, and government regulatory work, while building strong relationships with media contacts, internal stakeholders, and external vendors.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with attorneys to identify, shape, and execute communications initiatives such as media interviews, thought leadership, speaking opportunities, and event participation that advance the firm’s mission and reputation.
- Develop and sustain relationships with journalists at major media outlets, create introductions between partners and relevant reporters, and prepare lawyers for interviews.
- Write and revise press releases, talking points, internal memos, bylined articles, and other communication materials.
- Create and edit copy for the firm’s website, intranet, internal communications, and related channels.
- Contribute to the planning and execution of social media campaigns that strengthen the firm’s brand visibility.
- Work with outside public relations consultants, ensuring their efforts align with firm goals, standards, and expectations.
- Support inclusion initiatives and help promote the firm’s pro bono efforts.
- Coordinate award submissions for individual attorneys, the firm, and practice groups.
- Collaborate with relationship partners to help raise the profile of in-house counsel at client organizations.
- Oversee the placement process for bylined articles.
- Operate effectively in a demanding, fast-moving, and high-volume environment.
- Maintain a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to meet firm deadlines.
Qualifications and Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree is required.
- At least 5 to 7 years of experience in communications management, or an equivalent background.
- Prior experience in the legal sector, government, journalism, or at an agency is strongly preferred.
- Excellent written and spoken communication abilities, along with strong accuracy and attention to detail.
- Advanced familiarity with social media platforms.

Compensation and Benefits
The firm offers a competitive total rewards package that includes comprehensive health and well-being benefits, as well as 401(k) profit sharing. The expected pay range for this position in Washington, DC is $135,000 to $175,000 annually. The final offer will depend on factors such as qualifications, experience, location, education, market data, and internal equity.
