Role Overview
This hourly contract position is for a building code and permitting specialist who will support remote review and quality control work related to construction documentation. The engagement pays between $65 and $90 per hour and is based in Canada, with remote work arrangement.
Responsibilities
- Examine construction records such as drawings, permit packets, site plans, and inspection documentation, then mark them up to confirm alignment with applicable building regulations.
- Determine and sort code obligations, local jurisdiction rules, and other compliance factors across multiple regions.
- Check annotated data sets for precision and consistency with municipal, state, and national building standards.
- Assess AI-produced responses for accuracy in areas including permit conditions, zoning restrictions, and code adherence.
- Create annotation instructions that explain how to interpret building codes and differences between jurisdictions.
- Offer organized feedback that helps improve regulatory judgment and cross-jurisdiction accuracy.
Requirements
- Strong working knowledge of building codes, permitting procedures, and jurisdiction-specific compliance requirements is essential.
- Prior experience as a permit expeditor handling city agency coordination, permit submissions, and inspection management is preferred.
- Applicants with architectural experience should bring solid understanding of code compliance, building design rules, and plan preparation.
- Experience as a government reviewer or plan examiner for permit review and approval in municipal or state settings is highly regarded.
- Advanced expertise in at least one of these jurisdictions is required: California, Texas, or Florida.
