Role overview
This fixed-term contract runs for 8 months and is based at the Auckland Head Office. The position sits within the Client Accounting and Tax team and focuses on delivering accounting and tax support to a broad mix of clients.
It is an intermediate-level accounting role that works alongside internal teams to prepare financial statements and tax returns, while also supporting the Private Client Services team with tax advisory work.
The role includes advising clients on matters that may be technical in nature, with particular emphasis on wills, estates, trusts, and estate planning.
Client base
The client portfolio includes estates, trusts, charities, and individuals. Experience serving these types of clients is preferred.
Key responsibilities
You will be expected to contribute to the full range of client accounting and tax activities, maintain service quality, and help ensure all work meets the required standards.
- Prepare financial statements and tax returns.
- Deliver prompt and accurate service to clients.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships.
- Handle and resolve client questions and requests.
- Ensure work complies with legislation, regulations, and internal policies.
Skills and experience
The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of New Zealand tax and accounting practices, plus the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. They should be comfortable interpreting financial information, learning new software, and managing deadlines in a client-focused environment.
Requirements
- Sound understanding of New Zealand tax and accounting practices.
- A tertiary qualification in Bachelor of Business/Commerce majoring in Accounting, or an equivalent qualification.
- 2 to 4 years of experience in an accounting position.
- Ability to analyse and interpret financial data.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work on own initiative as well as within a team.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines.
- Comfort with learning and using new accounting software.
- Strong client orientation, attention to detail, and good planning and prioritisation skills.
