Role Overview
WestJet is hiring an Avionics Technician to support the day-to-day maintenance of aircraft systems across Boeing 787, 737 NG, 737 MAX, and De Havilland Dash 8-400 (Q400) fleets. This role is suited to someone who enjoys a busy technical environment, works well in a team, and consistently puts safety first. Strong troubleshooting ability, sound judgment, and a collaborative approach are essential.
Note: This role is not eligible for remote work under WestJet’s hybrid work policy and is expected to be performed on site.
Compensation and Benefits
- ACA premiums begin at 7% and rise by 1% every 3 years, up to a maximum of 11%.
- Night shifts attract an additional $2.00 per hour.
- Fuel tank entry work is paid at an extra $7.00 per hour.
- Overtime is paid at 1.5x for the first 8 hours and 1.75x after that within a pay period.
- AOG trips are compensated at 1.5x, including non-working hours during the trip.
- The WestJet Savings Plan includes a 20% company match, with contribution choices across RRSP, TFSA, or Cash Savings Plan.
- Travel privileges include standby and confirmed flights for the employee and a travel partner, plus companion passes and discounts on vacation packages.
- Benefits include flexible health coverage, prescription coverage, dental, vision, basic life insurance, and ADD, STD, and LTD coverage, with extra options available.
- Additional support includes PPE allowance, tool allowance, and a uniform allotment.
- Employees may also receive profit sharing and an Owner’s Performance Award.
- The schedule follows a 5,5,4 rotation with day, afternoon, and night shifts, with shift selection based on seniority.

Key Responsibilities
- Carry out safe and efficient avionics maintenance on WestJet aircraft.
- Diagnose faults and resolve technical issues in electrical, navigation, and flight control systems.
- Work across a fast-moving operational setting while keeping safety and quality at the forefront.
- Support maintenance activities that may require travel, base coverage, or rescue trips.
- Use maintenance software and Microsoft Office tools as part of the role.
Requirements
- A valid Transport Canada (E) licence is required.
- At least 2 years of experience and/or endorsement on Boeing 737, 787, Q400, or a comparable aircraft type is preferred.
- Strong hands-on technical ability in electrical, navigation, and flight control systems is required.
- Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada, including Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or an open work permit with PR card in process.
- A radio licence must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
- Ability to lift up to 62 lbs and remain seated, kneeling, or standing for extended periods is necessary.
- Must be comfortable working in challenging environments such as temperature extremes, confined spaces, and at heights.
- The role requires maintaining a fit test to wear safety and protective equipment, including a respirator.
- Shift flexibility is needed for nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required.
- Travel may be needed for coverage or rescue-related assignments.
- Strong computer literacy is needed, including maintenance systems and Microsoft Office applications.
Conditions of Employment
- The successful candidate must obtain and maintain a Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC) issued by Transport Canada.
- The role requires obtaining and maintaining an Airside Vehicle Operators Permit (AVOP), which also depends on holding a valid driver’s licence and a clean driving abstract.
- Pre-employment testing will include a physical ability assessment and audiometric testing.
- A clear police and criminal record check is required.
- Employment is conditional on passing a pre-employment alcohol and drug screen, which covers alcohol, psychoactive substances, illicit drugs, and cannabis.
