About the Role
MUBI’s film library is expanding quickly, and the team needs a Subtitling Technician who can handle the technical side of subtitling work and help keep content accessible. The role suits someone who is highly comfortable with technology and naturally looks for smarter, faster ways to work, especially when conforming files and improving workflows.
You will be part of a small team helping titles move onto the platform more efficiently while ensuring subtitles and accessibility assets meet quality standards.
Working Arrangement
This position follows a hybrid-remote setup with three required office days each week in London. The core in-office days are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The remaining two days can also be spent in the office if preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, retime, convert, and conform subtitles and SDH files from outside vendors in multiple file formats and languages.
- Build and quality-check subtitles and translation templates using subtitling software, while following internal style guidelines.
- Review subtitle streaming reports, then resolve the issue directly, route it to the relevant team, or escalate it as needed.
- Carry out final technical verification on subtitles created in-house.
- Help expand SDH and other accessibility coverage across a broad range of content.
- Contribute to the creation and improvement of internal standards and documentation.
- Support the Subtitling Operations Director with additional subtitling-related tasks as required.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience with advanced subtitling tools such as Subtitle Edit, EZTitles, or Ooona, especially across VOD, theatrical, or broadcast workflows.
- Good understanding of subtitling industry standards and how accessibility requirements are applied in VOD.
- Strong written English skills.
- Knowledge of a second language and interest in linguistics are both advantageous.
- Enthusiasm for film and solid overall film knowledge.
- Proven ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines without losing attention to detail.
- Well-developed organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
- Comfort with solving technical problems creatively.
- Self-motivated approach with a willingness to learn new technology quickly.
- Ability to work independently and provide regular progress updates.
- Organised, punctual, and patient working style.
